i have 2gen axles. its a 1gen car. i can not get it in the hub!! im off by just about an inch. i tried whacking it in cant get it in! if i were to remove the ball joint THIS WOULD BE SIMPLE! but i cant get the ball joint out im convinced there is something more than just taking the nut off and hammering it off, right? well i need some advice! heres a pic of it.

I read ## post wrong sorry.

Try this.......

Bolt the hub back to the strut.

Then put a jack under it and put a little pressure on it so when you remove the ball joint nut it won't just sit there and spin.

When you get the nut off take a big hammer and smack the hub where the ball joint is a few times. And put some balls into it, it takes a few good hits.

Then wa-bam the ball joint will slide right out of the hub, and then you will have enough room to get the axle into the hub.

turn the wheel all the way in either direction all the way.... if i remember, passenger side crank the steering wheel all the way to the left.... then take the axle and push it towards the rear and slightly down, while bending the splined section towards the wheel bearing, it actually can bend pretty sharp :) ...., LOL, also... is this axle actually inserted all the way in your trans? they have a snap ring on the passenger side... and I'm not sure about this, but i think that the 1st and 2nd gens have different spline counts on the axle and trans..... so this may all actually be for nothing.... hope this helps

thanks but im not sure how to remove the ball joint i heard you need a press and i dont have that. i know it would be simple if i could remove it.

also, 93 &94 1st gens had different spline counts than the 1ga's, and that the outside axle diameter was different, so their not a interchangeable parts.....

You don't need a press for the ball joint. Do what i wrote in the first post and it will work. Works on every car i have ever worked on. And i re-wrote my first post ### i miss read your question.

greatt! thanks guys i completely forgot you had to steer the wheel. you both helped a bunch! and to adamstreyle i have a 2gen transmission in so that is why im using 2gen axles. but you are correct they wont work with a 1st gen trans. THANKS AGAIN GUYS!
