i think the previous owner stripped the spark plug hole. seems like spark plug number 2 is stripped. im not sure though but spark plug has no signs of wear they are brand new bosch platinums. but anyway my question is , where do the spark plugs screw into? is it the valve cover or the head?

The spark plugs screw into the head. If the thread is stripped I would pull the head to fix or look for a replacement.

Best thing is the pull the head and repair or replace the head. Replace the head gasket while you are in there.

If money is tight you can probably get away with cleaning and re-tapping the hole and maybe using some "quick thread" but this method will put some metal shavings into your engine :( ... I would not go this route if you plan of keeping this engine for any appreciable period of time.

(Bosch platinums = YEECH!) NEVER use a socket wrench to start plugs.

You place the plug in the socket and with the socket on the extention, you hand start the plug until they snug down on the head, then add the wrench to the extension to tighten them down to torque specs.

This prevents cross threading ...

If the original threads are gone, one can do a helicoil with the head left on the block, but the top of the piston will have to be cleaned thoroughly...

Did you buy the car without plugs in it? I don't understand how if when you pulled the plugs was it not painfully obvious something was wrong...either there was aluminum on the spark plug or threads are all mashed up
And platinum plugs have no place in a 4g63 motor do the ngk plugs

Yes platnum plugs will do more bad than good in the 4g63 engines. Only go cooper. And never pull the plugs while the engine is hot. As metal exspands and retracts. When you pull a plug out of a hot head then the plug hole will get smaller and you could have more of a problem on your hands than you ever wanted.

Why we don't approve platimum is that platinum is a horrible conductor of electricity where copper is close as we can get for absolute conditivity.

Plus, copper is designed to be used with our ignition systems for best efficency....

If we can use gold or silver in spark plugs, then you definitely got a spark plug that can really perform!

The issue is that there are no threads in the head. Not what plugs hes running.

You need to get the issue cyl to top dead center, and get a re-thread tool if your threads are completely missing. Then use a vacuum to get all the shavings out of the cyl when your done.

Heil-coil make a spark plug repair kit, you will ned that.
It is a kingsert style of thread repair, best done with the head off the engine.

Bogussvo is correct. There are a couple of companys that make helicoil kits but it would be best if the head was off the car. I use my spark plug tool kit at work all the time. People are always cross threading lawn equipment spark plugs. I have not found one that I could not fix. Just make sure you use the correct length insert. It should be the same length as the threads on the spark plug. Good luck.
