Ok, so as title states I have oil building in my spark plug gully (not in the spark plug chambers but in the gulley). I have replaced the oil cap, oil cap gasket, hell even doubled up the oil cap gaskets but I still get oil there. There is no oil inside my spark plug chambers, and I can not see any cracks in the valve cover. Could it be leaking out of one of the bolt holes?

I've had luck with removing the bolts and applying some rtv type sealant to the threads of the bolts. I had one that was kind of stubborn and yes I did use some sort of a rubber seal under the head of that one and it has worked for me so far.

Ok, I will give that a shot. One more thing, what type of RTV, they have many LOL. And would you happen to know what torque to set the bolts on the VC would ya?

I used some red rtv silicone gasket maker. You should be able to find something similar at any auto parts store. Not sure on the torque specs though. I just do them by feel.;)

Ok, thanks for the help. I am going to do this this weekend. That oil laying there is pissing me off haha. Now onto the other leak by the timing belt area somewhere!

I never looked up a spec, i've always just gone decently snug.

They loosen as the gasket settles, tighten again a few days later. Then recheck one more time a couple weeks after that.

I have am oem cap, with mitsu oem gaskets. Also have a new oil cap in which I thought was leaking, so I got a new oem one and it still leaks. So that concludes it isnt the oil cap leaking.

I have been battling the same issue with my 97 GSX. Found leaks between the valve cover and cylinder head where the spark plug tube gaskets had split. Surely I over tightened them trying to make them seal. Looks like the spark plug wire swelled below the gasket and the leak traveled up the spark plug wire and into the valley.

Good deal, that was the last place I looked. Caused me to sprout a couple more gray hairs and pull a few more out. The two that were leaking barely had any oil on them, just a film but the other two were clean and dry.

Good luck finding your leak.

I had this problem before. I had to get a new valve cover gasket and another valve cover. The valve cover was slightly warped so, it wouldn't sit on the head perfectly. It would leak in the galley no matter what. You may just need a new gasket though. Get a good one, not a cheap one. Be careful not to over torque the bolts because the valve cover cracks easily and the threads may strip. The torque is only about 2ft lbs. Search on here for the exact procedure of tightening.
