axles wont go in!!!!

axles will not go into the differential!!! i tried taking the clip off and using pliers to compress it a little.. i tried pulling with all my strength and it wont go in! they are the right axles because they came out of this same differential... why wont they go in??

count the splines on them just to make sure.

^^^ count your splines..if that matches up..then most likely your spider gears in the differential isn't lined up anymore...flash a light into it to make sure....if there go then you should see from end to end

well i am able to slide the axle in without the c clip on but with it on it just wont go in.. this is killing me please help

take a mallet or sledge hammer,with that clip on you cant put it in by hand sometimes you kinda got to hit it. try tappin in with a heavier hammer.

I just did the axles on my 97 GST, if you are sure you got the right part number they'll go in. Don't be afraid to back them out just slightly then ram em' in there the final inch or two with a little force. Not too much, but with the right umph they should click right it. Ensure your seals are seated properly and make sure to deliver the force as linearly as possible. If you try to force it in at an angle, even if ever so slight you will be there a while. When doing this, try grabbing the axle itself to get a more solid grip, not the outer end link on the hub end.

Yea when I did my axles on my gst and to shove them in pretty hard but like turbodude said make sure you keep it straight makes all the difference.

When I did my all wheel swap I was having some troubles getting my new axles in the awd trans. I just put them in as far as I could then kicked them. Worked pretty good for me.

well i just came across this...

it says they could be damaged and thats why they arent going in.. could this be my issue?? the clip doesnt look damaged but maybe im not seeing something..

i had to remove upper ball joint to get the right axle in. Otherwise it will never go in even with both the bottom control arm removed.

I had this same issue on my Pass AWD axle. Put the castle nut on the end of the threads and hit it with rubber mallet. Worked like a charm. Assuming the splines are the correct amount and not damaged.

Another tip is to to make sure ## c clip opening is on the bottom. The opening gives u less resistance. And with castle nut on and flush with the axel tap back in with a hammer. If more force is needed use a block of wood on the axel end and hit with a hammer. I use a 10 pound small sledge when dealing with suspensions.

Ops forgot put a small dab of vasoline on the c clip so as to keep it from spining heavy side down

just took out my axles yesterday to do my wheel bearing..n I came across that same problem..if u wanna get it in way easily put the castle nut back on and push on the steering knuckle..it should go in on the 1st or 2nd try

thats what i did took everything off then it was just me and the axle i flipped over the castle nut so as to not damage it.. then proceeded to go to town with a sleage took 15 minutes to brake everything down slam it in with a sleage and have it back together.
