Any tips to get the axle out of the hub. I have a 1G AWD and its on the drivers side. I tried my airhammer, and 10 lb sledge for hours on end. I was also spraying penetrating oil about every 15 minutes. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Kevin

Use a 3-jaw puller on it. If that doesn't work, it might be too rust welded in to get it out, so just replace the hub. I had a hub with an axle stuck in it that was simply impossible to get out. So I just replaced it, and all was well.

When I had my clutch replaced, my passenger axle was frozen/stripped into the hub. They said that they had a machine shop push it out with a heavy duty machine type thing, they did it for free for me, but it might cost you maybe 30-40 bucks?

Update, I went back out this morning and did some more beating with the sledge hammer and it slowly came loose. I had to fight with it every singe mm though. Talk about some serious rust welding.

for future hub pulling....u should

1. spray pb blaster on both sides of hub
2. take brakes/rotor off
3. remove axel nut and washer then, reinstall nut most of the way, so that the end of nut is even with end of threads
4. beat the axel a few time with a heavy sledge, 5-15lb
5. if it doesn't seem to move after lets say 10 wacks then....
6. its time to get a heavy duty 2-3 jaw puller, place jaws on the hub and tighten up with a decent impact gun
7. if axel still hasn't budged much and the impact gun is having a hard time turning, then remove impact gun and wack the bolt of the puller 5 or so times then try the impact gun again you should get some movement

follow these steps and you should have the axel out in not time

mental note NEVER HAMMER ON YOUR AXELS FOR HOURS WITH A SLEDGE, ITS NOT GOOD FOR WHEEL BEARING, BALL JOINT, OR TIE ROD END

You've got to do what you've got to do. It worked, plus I'm planning on replacing bearings, and balljoints.

So, its all good.
