auto tensioner arm held by a bolt???

Im a noob when it comes to timing belt changing on a dsm. Its not hard as long as your marks line up and your auto tensioner isnt leaking, But i have a question and im a lil concerned about this. Theres a bolt thats against my tensioner arm(i guess applying pressure to keep the pulley against my belt). Is that in any way dangerous. I just figured out why it was there looking down at my engine wondering why i have a huge bolt sticking out. Maybe my auto tensioner is bad and he subed it for that bolt.im stuck on it.

yea im going to take some tomorrow, its dark out and late. The only other bolt that i can think of is the alternator tensioner but thats in the front. I say that because the motor is still in the car and thats all i can really see as far as the other bolt and tensioner arm. In the process of putting another head on my car and researching timing belt changing.

Was this engine running? That bolt is a SST or a special service tool. Its used to take away pressure from the autotensioner to remove the timing belt. If the engine was running with this bolt pushing up against the tensioner I would be somewhat worried. However you can make this tool out of a battery tie down bolt, or you guessed it.... an alternator bolt.
This tool is essentially just used to remove the timing belt!

Yea the engine runs..ive been runing this engine for about 15k miles and no problem. I messed it up this time on accident. But dosnt it put pressure against the tensioner arm when u turn it clock wise to put pressure on the belt, or is that incorrect? I thought that when u turn it clockwise it moves the autotensioner against the belt to tighten it. Help me understand

Clockwise will loosen the belt.

I bet he forgot it in there the last time the Tbelt was done, maybe in a rush, and forgot to take it out when he reassembled things.

Half the time shops dont bother to check everything over to make sure it's 100% correct, so it would be easy to miss if they were doing a quick (hack) job.

Ok cool. I completely understand it now. Clockwise will loosen the bolt which will allow me to put the grenade pin in(allen wrench) then loosen the bolt on the tensioner and remove the timing belt.
