Hey guys! Like the title says I would like to know if the early and late 2g a/c compressors were interchangeable. I thought there was absolutely no difference until I checked CAPS and found a different part number for the 95-96 and the 97-onwards model years.
Has anyone put a 2gb a/c compressor on their 2ga or vice versa?

I thought the refrigerant type changed over the years, and neither is compatible with the other requiring different gaskets, o-rings, etc.

[All 2Gs are 134a.]

I know that 1gs and 2gs need different refrigerant but I am really not sure about 2gas and 2gbs being different in that manner. You may be right tho!

You'd think I'd remember this... I had a 95 a/c compressor left over from when I owned a 95 talon. Totalled that car, bought a 99, and then last year had the a/c compressor swapped when the 99's compressor failed. However I think I didn't use the 95 compressor and instead sold it off and bought one from a 99. Unfortunately I don't remember why I did that :( I could swear it was because of the refrigerant change, but honestly am not sure any more... man I have the worst memory.

Anyway, I'm certain my 99 uses the newer refrigerant (r134a). Does your 95 use r12?

Trying to get a definite answer on this. I bought a 2G compressor off someone here, but was told by my mechanic that it would not work. He said that the compressor was shorter, as well as the compressor had some sort of pressure valve built in, where the stock one did not. I did not get a chance to go see it for myself yet, but he said there is no way it will work. I have a 1996 eclipse GST, and I am unsure of the year that the compressor that I bought was off. Is there a difference in 2Gs? I have no clue if turbo vs N/T or automatic VS manual makes any difference.

You're gonna need a 2g turbo ac compressor, awd fwd auto stick doesnt matter just needs to come off a 4g63
