LoL. I know EVERYONE on here is tired of the questions about venting to atmosphere but i've searched and came up with nothing. My question is would there be a way to compensate for the missing air when venting to atmosphere using Greddy e-manage or dsm link or something of that nature? I already know about the Maf-T and Gm maf and I have them but I really don't like the way it looks in the engine bay. I know function > form but I like for everything I build to look good so could someone please help?

Not with the stock airflow meter, no, unfortunately. If you really don't like the way a MAF-T looks, get an HKS VPC, or run a megasquirt, AEM EMS, or some other aftermarket solution that uses a MAP sensor.

As long as you are using the stock air sensor you will not be able to vent to the atmosphere without atleast some negetive consequences(poor gas milage, rich fuel mixture, surge ect..). You may be able to diminish these negetive effects somewhat with dsm link, but will not be able to get rid of them all together until you make the proper modifications.

you can always hide wires and paint/powder your gm maf :)

You could build a map sensor unit, run a maft, or use some type of stand alone which requires use of a map anyways to determine boost. Without any of those systems above, then no, your car will probably run like crap vented.

Where would I find a HKS VPC? And what is a megasquirt?

you acualy like the look of a stock mass over a maft ? hmmmm...
ya could always try to find a old "blaha" mass - i havent seen one in a long time
tho'

the truth is - if your car is pretty stock, odds are you can vent your BOV to get the Wooooosh
with out any major problems. you may get some studdering and black (rich) smoke in between shifts.
Other then fouling plugs out early and wasting gas, its fine.

Except that the stocker is a CBV, rather than a BOV... it sits open under vacuum. Vented, it'll pull in unmetered and unfiltered air. With an aftermarket proper BOV it'd work... but still. Making your car run crappy just to sound Furious is more than just kinda lame.

Sell the car and get an mr2 turbo. You can vent and pssh pssh pssh all you want with those cars with no problem and the need of extra equipment to do so.

Seriously though, just clean up teh wiring and you can find a compromise. Are you willing to spend all the extra money to have your BOV be heard and not have the wires/look of gm maf/maft? That combo is already extra to begin with and some people wont justify the purchase as the stock MAS has been proven with high HP setups, so getting some stand alone like aem ems or likewise is even more, and you are looking at $1000+ for all the proper things necessary to successfully run it, not to mention learning how to tune it etc.

So if you are set to make things "look good" expect to pay that much if you don't like how your setup currently looks. just my .02.

I plan on gettin the greddy e-manage when I go to dyno my car and have it tuned thats why i was wondering if I would be able to compensate using that. And as far as the stock comment. The car is far from stock. Currently the motor is being rebuilt by me and a guy that has been doing that kinda work for ages and i'm just helping out to learn a little more about the dsm motors. The mods are hks cams (264 I 272 E), fidanza adjustable cam gears, sbr tubular turbo mani w/38mm wg flange, Tial 38mm wastegate, 20G turbo, greddy 24row fmic, weisco 9.0:1 pistons 20 over w/ the block bored & honed, walbro 255, precision ball style 680cc injectors, s-afcII, aem fuel rail, aem fpr, magnecore 8.5mm plug wires, greddy upper n lower ic pipe, greddy type rs bov, injen cai,.. I'm sure there is more but it's too late for me to be trying to think :(

They sell extensions for the MAFT. Buy it and put the MAFT in your glovebox. Looks better (non existent) and makes "tuning" a whole lot easier from inside the car.

yea... i know but I just dont like the way the gm maf looks in the middle of the IC piping. function > form but I just dont like it.

You know, the DSMlink v3 is rumored to have support for GM MAF... ;0) I'm getting my hands on DSMlink as soon as I'm done putting in my Tein SS setup. :0)

Wow alot of raz on venting.. lame wonder why so many people do it.. and the answer is not beacuse its ricer. haha if its a 1g just crush the friggin thing and you should have no problems.. hate when people fame. gah!

True. A lot of people's reasoning behind the GM MAF and MAFT setup is the venting of their BOV, which is quite "lame."

But a few who install the GM MAF actually wants to reduce the restriction of the airflow. GM MAF obviously has better flow than the stock 2g MAF. But if a tuner is at that point where the difference in airflow between the stock MAF and the GM MAF actually matters (400+ whp, generally), we're definitely not going to see of that discussion in the Newbie section anytime soon. :0)

I'm not gonna get there, that's for sure. My goal is quite moderate: 300whp. Added with my distaste on piggyback systems, the GM MAF + MAFT setup really somehow turns me off.

The DSMlink v3 sounds a lot more appetizing. ;0)

I really don't like the way it looks in the engine bay.
The GM MAF is made of aluminum and black plastic. Rather dull when you get it from the junk yard and not really pretty brand new. A couple hours with some sand paper and buffer will have it shining like a gem.
