Venting to atmosphere

They need to be recirculated unless you are running SD or a MAF-T.

With the stock MAF, the ECU is expecting that BOV to release air back into the intake. If you dont recirculate it, your ECU will be sending X amount of fuel thinking that additional air is also in the system.
 
BOV before MAF - doesn't matter. Vented, recirc, or comb
BOV after MAF - best to only recirc. Not vented or comb
SD - again, doesn't matter.
 
+1 to fourg. Keep it completely recirculated.

Even with a setup that lets you VTA without issues, I've heard a few people say the car still ran better when recirculating.
