douglasville,
i went to the track last night with my freshly built 7 bolt (stock) and it ran fine while i was there . i did a few interstate pulls on the way home and when i got off the exit i heard like a knocking . just like the knocking when i spun a rod bearing. checked my oil and i was about a quart low. anyways i pulled my pan today and my rod bearings are fine but all of my crank bearings were wore down to the copper and i had flakes all in my pan. the crank was new and so were the bearings and we also plastigauged them . so what happened ?? i cant really think of why this happened unless it was because i was just 1 quart low??

If you were accelerating hard enough with that quart low, or pumping oil hard enough to let the screen suck air, you'd be doing almost the same as running dry. Were your clearances built to spec, and plastigaged for accuracy?

yeah it was the stock size crank and we checked the clearances. i probably was accelerating hard enough to do that . im hoping it was because it was a quart low and not a build error

If your main bearings took a crap on you then it might be improper clearances. Did you measure the main bearing journals as well as the bearing shells? Either way theres human error involved, improper clearances or not putting enough oil

My 130,000 mile 1g was a quart low all the time ,it had so many leaks it was impossible to keep up it needed a quart every three hundred miles!! But its still running fine and I drive hell out of it with my 50 trim that had on there until just parked the 1g and bought a new 2g and looks like the 7 bolt in that one is already gone.!!
So it was build error a quart low better not kill a motor or they are total junk!!!

i would like to add that my oil pump was out of time a little more than a quarter turn.. would that affect the oiling of the crank??

No, but it might put the rear balance shaft out of time. You know the oil pump timing mark only lines up once every 6 turns of the crank, right?

Being only a quart low of oil shouldn't effect the main bearings. The first thing to happen when oil pressure is too low is you will spin a rod bearing and maybe throw a rod. Either you got the motor too hot, put the main caps in the wrong places, wrong oil clearence, or possibly you spun a balance shaft bearing.
