i was looking at the gallery and i noticed this one dude has the air filter hooked right up to the turbo, no piping or anything just connected it right off the turbo. can we do this with our cars, my guess is it would trip the air sensor, and cause the check engine light to come on!!

i would think it would run cooler especialy when you are moving. the air would come right through the front bumber and go right into the filter. just my two cents. im not any expert but thats what ive always thought.

While your thinking in theory is good, the actual process doesn't work that way.

Once the air comes through the bumper it goes through the FMIC, if you have one, then through the HOT radiator and then to the turbo.

If you want to get the coldest air you can get a pipe that puts the filter in the stock sidemount location, like I have. You can also get a pipe that puts the filter in the stock location and have air forced up to it through the hole were the SMIC went. I personally, as you can see, want the coldest air comming in that I can get.

ok you are right didnt think of the radiator. but do you have any problems with water with the location of you intake.

I live in AZ we never get rain. If we do I will cross that bridge when I get there, but it is only a slight concern
thats good. well hope you never have any problems with it. looks nice though. i might consider doing that when i get my pte 50 trim. how did you do that where did you get that pipefrom to route it over there?

I knew I wanted one so it was just a matter of finding one I liked. Dejon has one but I didn't like the way it was help in place :cough: ziptie :cough: but it was cheaper. This one looks much better and actually has a bracket to hold it in place. It is expensive but I bought a bunch of stuff at once from them so we worked out a deal.

thats nice. so what they are saying is that it wont work with the stock mas. so what would i have to get to get it to work. i am going to get a safc. by getting that will i be able to use that intake?

No you will have to run with a MAFT and GM MAF like I am or you will have to run some sort of speed density, but that is expensive. An AFC has nothing to do with it.

ok so how is your setup working for you running the maft and gm maf, also running a safc? thats what im planing on running. soi was just curios how well that setup works?

I am running DSMLink with it, as my injectors are to big for an AFC. They will only correct up to 660's then it becomes ify. It works great and I have had not only problem or headache. It will run just as well with an AFC as it does with Link you just have to run a MAFT.

Ok so i want to run 750's with a safc. Would that be ok to run with a maft?

Nope, MAFT and AFC are about the same as far as their maximum correction values. You can correct for the airflow you'll need to subtract to a point, but it still won't be enough and you'll jack the timing all over the place and make tuning difficult. Either invest in an EPROM ECU with a chip to control your injectors or get one and also pick up DSM Link.

You don't really need the maft unless you are maxing out a 2g or Evo maf sensor. Dsmlink can control pretty much any injector out there.

Hey guys I have a CAI that I just recently put on and it looks almost identical to the one in the pic but I got mine from a local company. www.extremeintercoolers.com They are well known for their fmic kits and the CAI they make is top notch as well. I do live in a wet climate and I am about to order and install a 3" AEM bypass valve on mine. Their kit can be ordered for 90 without a filter or I think like 130 with a filter. I chose to run a k&n filter so I got mine without the filter. I can provide pics if anyone wants.

This is from under the car sorry but the best pic I could get without removing the plastic in the wheel well.

The good thing about this setup is that you can also take the section of pipe that connects to the turbo and flip it over to make it into a short intake pipe that sits in the factory intake location

Here is a pic from their website that shows a little better pic of where it comes out in the old smic location

Looks good i might have to consider using there CAI. Also i was thinking about the three inch by pass valve from aem if i got an intake like that.

From what I have heard they are not meant to be used on forced induction vehicles. I think it actually says it on the box. Chek it out before buying one.

Ok I will.

The thing about the CAI's is that the piping is amller than a big stock location short ram intake and I don't think the diffrence between the two locations is worth it, but that's just me. In my mind I would rather have more pretty cool air then less really cool air if that makes any sense to you. Now while the material of my ghetto rigged intake isn't a good example the fact that it's about 4" in diameter and has no sudden curves so air can flow without much restiction can only be a good thing. The CAI's as you can see in teh pic have sudden 75-90* angle turns. There is no replacemnet for lower intake temps but I think that the stock location is a good compramise between cold air and fuctionality. CAI guys do not take offense I am not saying that your kits suck or anything like that just for me especialy since I have a 4" inlet comprssor cover the big short ram air intake in the stock location is a better choice. Just my .02:thumb:

Im in the wait of getting my new Turbo. The inlet size is 4" and just wanted to know if there is anyone ruinng a air filter on a turbo and what one? I dont want a cheap one becuase I dont want the turbo to eat the filter.

Does anyone run open turbo w/ no Filter?

If filtered, what Filter are you using and are you running a pipe as well from turbo to air filter?

Ill be running the GM maft set up.
