2G Adjustable Cam Gears?

Ok so recently I've decided seeing as how the last owner installed BC 272 cams, that i want to get new cam gears as the old OEM ones are dull and boring looking. I was looking at adjustable cam gears, like HKS or something. I have a friend that thinks he knows everything about every car, and he told me because this is a interference engine he said that adjustable cam gears are something he don't recommend. However i see DSM's left and right that have them, anyone with any info on this please comment, thanks.

Do you want them just because they look cool or do you want them so you can adjust them. Lol people do use them all the time. Just dont adjust more than a few degrees so you dont risk the valves kissing the pistons, or have someone who actually does know what they are doing, adjust them while on the dyno.

You do understand they are adjustable for a reason, correct? It isn't just an aftermarket option for looks and they so some odd reason happen to be adjustable. Here you go:

As far as just installing some adjustable cam gears for looks; go ahead. You best check and tighten the set screws to make sure they are tight before running them.

Yes^ loctite or you will have a ruined untimed motor.

yeah im aware of what there for and thats the reason i want them, as im not running stock cams..i want to try and get the most out of my engine

Made it sound like it was a cosmetic mod.. Lol i have bc272's and oem gears on right now.. You dont NEED gears. But they can help in some ways.

They all do the same thing, just look uo reviews and pick one. I have BC gears awaiting install.

HKS only makes purple as in most to all their other products. (Check mine)The money and pain in the A could be used much better somewhere else. I edited earlier I said put the money towards link but I see you have v3 as well, nice. But I think that especially expensive HKS cams just arnt needed until, we'll just my new big build I'm doing I decided shooting for big numbers only going all out is when I needed them. Looking at your profile what you really need (unless you don't know you have them) is bigger injectors, make sure everything is a-ok mechanically and boost hard.
Also your profile says your timing belt jumped a tooth and now your timing is off is that current? If so fix that immediatly, if you want something blue put on a gates racing timing belt. I have a extra brand new if your in the market.

damn thats why i can only find purple. that sucks. the injectors are 850cc not sure what kind they are though. and yes it jumped a tooth and i am having her fixed tomorrow.

Just in case everyone isn't aware; you don't benefit from installing camshafts on their own. Meaning they aren't a drop in modification. Sure they may help somewhere in the RPM range but they aren't going to do what they were designed to until they are degreed to what the manufacturer designed them to be set at.

From there you can advance or retard (within reason), either and/or both [intake & exhaust] for a better fit per your specific application.

yeah i know that, thats why i want some adjustable cam gears so that i can like i said gain the most from my engine.
