Is there anything that makes a $300 set of cam gears worth three times the price of a $100 set off eBay?

All are the "same" aluminum. All are anodized.

What should I be looking at to justify the price difference?

you should be looking for the right company that will stand/ back up its product in case anything will happen. :thumb:

I doubt any cam gear company is going to cover the price of a rebuild head if the cams slip. If they slip, it's "user error."

thats what i think to kind of like changing the brand of oil in a 150k plus mile motor and it spins a bearing no one will cover that except you. i was kind of wondering the same bout this to. are we buying the name or is there a major difference that not obvious.

I have a set $130 skunk2 racing cam gears, and they work perfect!!!

Good to hear. The skunk2 gears have gone up in price though. Cheapest I've seen is about $215.

I'm installing different cams, valve springs, retainers, and a new timing belt. If cheaper cam gears work fine, then I'll get a set and install them now so I can adjust them when I finally spring the $$$ for dyno time.

I may just have to guinea pig this one. It wouldn't be the first time. Won't be the last.

Shit, I didn't know thats the price now! Their was a set for $80 when I bought mine, but were red and i wanted blue, so ended up paying $130 for the blue ones.

if its inproper installation any cam can slip and anything can go wrong even on stock cams,
all i was saying is you get what you pay for, some things are just name yes you guys are correct.

then you can just go out and get obx cams, and they will do the job.

Ah. Nevermind. A quick search of eBay with different search terms made the Skunk2 gears show up.

Silver - $95/pair
Blue - $125/pair
Red - $130/pair

They also have a new design that's going for $240+/pair.

what did you use for your search terms? I cant find anything for less than 240

I remember before the Lan-Evo and STI, hit the scene. Parts was a lot cheaper. When I got my HKS camshaft and camgears it was way cheaper then what is going on right now. When I got my camgears it was 300 bucks
