cams and adjustable cam gears?

I'm buildine my engine shortblock is assembled(usual stuff 2g pistons arp rod bolts).....
but my questions are in the head I had my machinest replace valve guides and manly my manly single springs are supposed to be dropin is this true? Also I'm gonna be running web came 272's the 546/547 grind the new batch I heard these really need to be degreed...is this true if I need some can gears can some body reccemond some cheap or somebody have some used? If I get the cheap one would replacing the hardware (nuts and bolts be ok?

People sometimes use the word "degreeing" cams with in mind for adjusting cam gears. Actually degreeing cams involes a lot more work than simply adjusting them..

With that being said, what they might have meant is that in order for you to make good power with these cams you might have to adjust them properly. Or they meant that these particular cams when they come from the factory don't line up with the cam spec card and in order for them to be within the spec you have to actually take measurements and degree them into spec.

Most good cams come very close to the cam card specs even after having machine work done to the engine. Hopefully someone that is more familiar with those particular cams can shine some light for you.

ExtremePSI currently has a few different sets for between $190-$210. Those are good prices for good cam gears, and it's not something you want to cheap out on.

What I meant was I can't install those straight up on stock gears

You can use the stock cam gears, but it is unlikley that you will get all you can out of the cams with the stock gears.

definitely need to be able to fine tune and degree the timing, but other than the springs should be drop in.

The springs are stock in size, and will drop in and fit, but the spring installed height needs to be checked and shimed to get the proper seat pressure.

When the seats are cut, and the valve ground, this will increase the installed spring height.

thank you for the correction bogus, i completely forgot about the machining aspect of that. you definitely want to check the installed spring height.

Thanks guys...ifigured the springs would need to be checked even tho manley says there a drop in spring. But what I was wantin to know was about the web cams running stock gears does anybody. Here have experience running them?

From what I have seen and read on the fourm, Webb cams are not one of the more common run cams.

So the info you are looking for may be sparce.
