will the 98 gsx ecu work with a 95 420a motor being Obd 1 ? I just got the car about 2 weeks ago and I'm looking into doing a few things. I wanted to make sure this would work before I went out and bought it. any help will be very much appreciated ! thanks guys !

No, it won't. But out of curiosity, what made you think it would? One is turbocharged, one is not, and they all use different sensors.

I did some research on some inexpensive ways to get some more power out of the motor, what I read was that if I get a 98 ecu and the TACTRIX flashing program I could unlock the 98 ecu's and upload pre-made maps that come with the program from TACTRIX. I was unsure about how true this was so I figured I would see what others thought before I went out and bought the parts

I see. Well, that's good logic, but unfortunately it only applies to the turbo models. You're right about all of the above, but it still won't work for you.

That is a good question. There's more info in the 420a specific forum, but from what I understand there isn't much aftermarket out there. Megasquirt is a popular option, but I'm not sure if there's any real tuning software that utilizes the stock 420a ECU.

okay I'll check out some more things! thank you !

Do not waste your time or money. Get a 4g63.

no offense, but this isnt helpful at all. if the op wants to build a 420a, by all means, let him/her and deal with it.

second, to answer the OPs question, no. unless you were extremely good with wiring, cross pollination and ecu tuning. then and only then would it be a possibility, and then it would be a challenge to get it running.
