Hi everyone. I am new to the forums (again). I bought the 95' GSX last summer (2011) and started tearing it apart same way as I did with my Camaro. The Camaro took me 6-7 years ! Hoping not to take that long with this one ;)

I dont write much.. so you will be seeing continual picture updates and short descriptions.

This is my 2nd 2g DSM. 1st was a 99' GST.. This time doing it right w/ AWD. This one will be a keeper like my Camaro.

The car was a 7 bolt stock for the most part, auto, torn up interior and an awful Maaco paintjob. Its now stripped and ready for the complete redo. Any comments, suggestions, or whatever you guys have are appreciated and thanks for checking my page out!

GSX down to bare metal in both pics. Also a shot of my Camaro I built same way as I am doing this one in background.

I'm assuming you're going with green paint, or was the engine bay like that when you bought it?

1st picture in this set I have etch primed the car using all Dupont paint products. The body work was then done and 2nd and 3rd pictures show the Dupont primer filler 3 coats mixed 4:1

(cant stand this auto merging reply posts but understand why its done.. this is in response to iTSaTSI) Green paint in the engine bay and roll cage.. Exterior is being sprayed Cosmos Black, a black pearl from the BMW.. Having green on the exterior would be ripping a page straight out from the fast and furious
....

Followed by 4th, 5th and 6th pic is the beginning stage of the engine build (6th picture should have been put in 4th place since its an older pic, made a mistake). Its a 6 bolt block and 7 bolt head. 2nd pic is drilling the 11mm stud holes to 12mm to fit block and dremel bottom left oil journal to allow better lubrication to head. This is still an obvious argument whether or not this actually prevents the lifter tick and actually improving oil flow but I did it, makes sense to me as there is a large channel the oil flows through around that stud. Doesnt hurt anything by taking a little aluminum out of this spot.

Head and block ready for machine shop cleaning and decking

(Also in response) the car did not come like this. It was white, and a complete car when I started

Thanks you guys. Im hoping to finish in 2-3 months.. As far as performance goes, I have the 6bolt block 7 bolt head. dual ball bearing Precision 6776RSP on the way, ARP head studs. I still need a lot of parts such as the manifold, walbro, injectors and most importantly right now are the forged rods and pistons.. holding me up from getting the motor to the machine shop to be balanced and put together. And yes, engine bay will be wire tucked

Like the Camaro, will be driven on the weekends. I like going for long trips, but I would also like to take this car to the strip once in a while. I would like to see at least 10's in the 1/4 once im done

Anyone familiar with this turbo? its the older model but this is brand new and unused (supposedly)

You should get the gt3582r turbo. That will easily take you up to 800hp or more. But your talking about tuning the car around every two weeks, stand alone system, redoing all the gaskets and making sure the engine is in top shape, because one thing gose wrong, there goes everything down the drain.LOL.

If your staying auto you might want to budget in some NOS and big stall to spool that beast, 10's should be easy with that turbo.

Thanks. And its not staying auto. I actually sold the whole unit a while back and now have the 5spd. Do you guys think the stock manual drivetrain will hold that amount of power and goals of running 10s?

I have two friends personally (Mr Peepers and Kp116 on here) whos cars were 5 speeds. Kp was well over 600 all wheel horse and he made the switch to auto and with just that he dropped I want to say 3 tenths of a second (sorry dont recall his times,). He was already mid 10s, fastest pass to date was a 9.75. Peepers ran a 10.7 last season on the 5 speed and in the fall made the swap to the auto, after getting some small issues straightened out he clicked off a 10.57 @129 and a 1.5 60'. With just the auto swap.

So, 5 speeds can get you into the tens for sure.

You might want to consider selling the 5 speed stuff off and going back to auto. Auto will be easier to get into the low 10's, cheaper, and more reliable. A stock 5 speed can hold that much power, but for how long is the question... It depends on how you drive too. A manual sends more shock through the driveline on launching (usually) and between shifts so it's known to break more parts when getting up there in power levels.

I definitely don't want auto. I also dont care for the extra tenth of a second I could shave off. But I do appreciate the info and suggestion :thumb:

I plan to drive this car on the street, only taking it to the track a few times per race season.
