This stinks of a clutch problem of some kind to me. Have you checked for leaks on the master and slave cylinders? Or a tranny problem MT or AT?

No leaks that I can see and how do I check tcu to see if its bad

Sorry automatic also

What you have to do is Jack the car up and put it on some stands (for safety) next while under the car have a friend press on the clutch and see if it engages. If it does then you could have a bad bearing or bent fork inside the transmission. It sounds scary but it really isn't that hard to fix. Is it an automatic or manual? :D sorry I guess I should of asked that first LOL

It's in what is called "limp mode" or in other words stuck in 3rd gear.
There are a couple things you can do at this point. If you want to have the "automatic" function you will have to replace the TCU with either a new or used one (when getting a used one there is always a risk of it being bad too, so be careful), or try to repair it yourself. If you want the 'cheap' way out and don't mind manually shifting gears you might want to go with a "shiftbox". A shiftbox is either one or two switches that let you manually choose/change gears. Stock shifter is still used for P-R-N-D selection.

As far as checking the TCU, pull it out of the car and take off the cover (four phillips-head screws). Look at the circuit borad and locate the capacitors. They are cylindrical components, most of the time black with silver top and a white stripe on the side. Look around them to see if it looks like something has leaked on the board. If it does than the TCU is bad. If you are not sure, take a picture and post it here.

Thanks to everyone will be trying your suggestions tomorrow and it is a automatic for the person that asked I will let yall knw what I figure out

I am kinda having the same issue, swapped my wiring to use a 98 tcm(not smart) then wired it back since it wouldnt work without more splixing...yadayada... Some reason after wiring it back, the limp mode hasnt come back. Usually mine sets in after a hard stop or pushing it until fuel cutoff. Tried both 2 days ago and hasnt returned. Not sure how this helps you, but if i need a tcm im hitting my jy on monday. Found one that actually says rebuilt on it and another one both 95.

In addition, i pulled the cover off my tcm and there is a jelly there for insulation , wouldnt want to take that off...

Im still new to this sort of thing with dsms, but with my stratus all I had to do was mod an autostick in which came with most Chryslers. Why is it not an option to convert to autostick instead of this switch box? Seems a lot easier to use a shifter instead of the switches...i think ill have to try it. Not sure of anyone on the board with a real autostick.

Some time ago a small company was making shift boxes for DSMs where buttons were "up gear" and "down gear". It had a gear indicator that showed what gear the tranny was in. Even had an option for paddle shifters. The box was made to work together with TCU, so the car was automatic with manual shift option, like what you are talking about. Sadly it seems they have stopped making them.

you should scan it for any codes it could just be a sensor . i would also smell the fluid if its burnt then its an internal problem .

Trans fluid smells and looks normal and how do I scan if the plug under dash doesnt work

The tsu has a hard jelly in it how can I tell if its good and also it wont let me upload pics

Attn: I put on a new tcu still exacty the same do I need to reset the computer

Seems a lot more efficient then that other method. I'll throw up a how to...should be fun ;)

Also OP, check your oil level. Mine was low, after a change seems to have helped.

Well mine came back today...very annoying. It wasn't until I removed my sensors and put them back that it went away...leaning towards one of the sensors now. I'll be hitting the jy tomorrow

you have an input sensor and an output sensor on the trans that can go bad and cause the trans to go into limp in . these sensors are in the front of the trans . the input is closer to the engine while the output is further away . usually when the output sensor goes the speedo wont work . you can check these sensors with a multimeter on ohm scale you should see some resistance . if you don't see any then the sensor is bad .make sure you unplug the sensor when you check it .

Thats my next step, should the car be in to on position? Or no key when testing the sensor? Pretty sure its one of them if not both.

Ok so far I have put on new tcu and no change I unpluged sensors and no change so maybe they are bad dont know what to do know this is driving me crazy
