I have searched for a couple hours now and haven't found my particular problem.
I am working on my daughters '90 eclipse with a 1.8L automatic, the ecm stopped working. It took me 3 days to track it down.
To begin with it wouldn't start. No fuel delivery.I replaced the fuel pump and the fuel regulator.Still would not start.
I then started reading threads on cars that wont start and no fuel problems.
A common theme seems to be the ecu goes bad.I have an extra ecu from a '93
eclipse that had a 1.8L w a manual trans.I installed this one figuring that it might start the car but not be compatible with the auto transmission. The car starts and runs now so I drove it a around the block to see if it would shift ok.It does.

Both ecu's have different part numbers. The cars seems to run fine with the one I installed, but can anyone tell me if I am missing something. Is this ecu compatible or will it mess the car up?

There is not a different ECU between the manual and automatic 1.8L car but there is a different ECU between 90's and the later cars. I've never looked to see what the difference is. I doubt any difference is going to kill your car but it might cause some drivability issues.

It looks like the 90 has a separate CAS and coil where it's one unit on the later cars or at least different connectors. The idle switch is in the idle speed control actuator on the 90 where it's in the motor position sensor on the later cars. So while the sensors and actuators are different the connections to the ECU use the same pins and seem to have the same functions. I don't think running the later ECU is going to be a problem.
