i am finally getting out of hondas and into the dsm world i found a guy who wants to swap my delsol with lsvtec for his 92laser rs awd turbo i have always wanted one of these but i have some questions the car is completely stock except he said he installed a 20g turbo on it (what is this also is it good or bad) some other questions what are some things should look out for on this car when i go to look at it (prone dsm problems) i do know my stuff just not much abot dsms mostly hondas also what are some fairly cheap mods and what can i do to put this car into the 13s in the quarter thanks alot looking foward to hoard all info i can

If it is all stock, that is a good thing. As long as he didn't crank the boost up too high on that stock fuel system. Look for all of the things you would look for in a good car. Drive it for at least 15 minutes and check for idle problems or a CEL.

Also the search button is your best friend. If you want to know something, search it untill your eyes wont stay open. You can find pretty much anything you need to know on this site.

First loook at the upgrade path alot of people dont look at the upgrade stages, everything is there to get you started. Timing , compression, battery lots of stuff or basic stuff on all cars, oil, coolant, leaks, fluids, plugsl, wires, ecu, wires, tires, axles, brakes, pads, rotors, turbo, shaft play, cel, water pump, all timing components, steering, wipers, misfires, shifting, everything works, looks ok, brake lines, fuel lines, bad wires, that should be a good startl.

well if he has a 20g turbo in it take a look and see if it really is one.... if it is ask him what kind of engine management he has for it cause you will need something to tune it. as for the prone problems check the rocker panels where you jack the car up in the back, make sure its not all roted out, check the timing belt condition, check how well the doors open, alot of 1g's have a problem with the doors when you open then they bend the fenders in a bit and create a problem there, check the exhaust manifold for cracks, check for any oil leaks around the timing belt cover.... cant think of anything else right now.... just check it out like you check any other car, dsm's only have as many problems as other cars that are not taken care of ;)

One thing that can really save you- code scanner. Even though the CEL isn't "on" doesn't mean it works. Went and looked at a 2g spyder last year, thing ran like shit and the guy was sketchy. When I first got in I noticed a dash bulb in the center console :hmm:

Asked him if the CEL worked "oh yea, no codes." Ok let me get my scanner and check- (his face- OMG--:shhh:) 18 codes all for various problems. He was in a hurry to show me the car since I drove 4 hours and apparently even though I called 7 times that morning and talked to him, he wasn't sure that I'd be there. Every other bulb worked- except the CEL which just so happened to be in the center console. My face-:notgood::rolleyes:

YEah buddy time to learn about the dsm you own , time and money will teach you all about it, just dive in, and be prepared for things breaking. LOL.

Turbo looks like it sat in a field or outside for a while... Its not to "fresh" looking.

It flows more air than a 14b, so it will make more power. Spool will probably be a little slower. If you want to use that 20g I would check the shaft play and wheel condition before you waste your time bolting it up to find its junk.

And upgrade it to use, you need more fuel, with more air flowing, tuning device, not a safc, but a wideband, for air fuel, not a blinky light, a logger, dsmlink maft something in those areas.
