im getting the transmission rebuilt for my 93 gsx. the 3-4 shift fork snapped and the slider shattered. and a few gears got chipped....along with the center diff ring gear. the company that is rebuilding it said they are going to rebuild it into a 91-92 case with 91-92 parts. he said they are doing it because thy already have a good center diff for the 91-92 case in their shop. should i be concerned that i am getting a 91-92 instead of a 93 trans back? is there any strength differences between them? any info would be helpfull....thanks.

No they are basically the same tranny. the 90-91.5 is the 22 spline and basically anything after 91.5-94 is a 23 spline. There may be some very slight differences but as far as I know they are the same thing... you can use any tranny from 90-94 on any 1g dsm, its a s simple as changing the center shaft from 22 to 23 spline if it awd. The 90-91.5 have longer shift arms than the 92-94.

ok cool. the shop works on alot of dsm's so i figured they knew what they were doing. but i just wanted some outside opinions to make sure i wasnt getting screwed over or somethin. but now i feel alot better about the whole situation LOL. thanks

The 91-92 trans has the most in common with the EVO III trans. You can literally just pop in the gearsets from the EVO and go. The 93+ has a different shift fork

93+ on the left 90-92 on the right. The diameter is different along with only having two holes for the shift rails to go through. This means that the 3-4 hub and slider has a different diameter. Which you said is one of the parts you broke.

The '90-early '91 has a different gear on the center diff. Late '91+ is all the same. Really the difference is that the '90-early '91 gear's teeth are thicker. This creates binding when used with other gears that are not the same thickness. So you have to keep everything the same. This is why they needed a late '91+ Center diff to use with your intermediate shaft.

The late '91-'92 is probably the best gearset and combination of shift forks that you can get in a 1g dsm. Everything upgradeable pretty much just drops in without modification.

Make sure they document everything they put into the trans and what parts they used because if you ever need to get back into it, it can be a nightmare if you don't know what parts are in there. I'm using a combination of 2g parts in a '90-early'91 case. It would be funny to see someone's look on their face if they opened it up and they didn't know what was done to it. LOL
