60-1 users, what supporting mods?

Man, everyone needs to shut up. My car is sitting in pieces right now, and I really want to get it all in, and put it all on (I have a 60-1 on the way.) I'm jealous.

:p

Hey man don't be jealous, use the time to LEARN! I have the chance to buy a built 2.0 with 14k miles on it. New crank, Eagle H-beams(?), JE 9:1-.020" over. new oil pump, water pump. Some expensive 2 piece crank pulley, new timing package, Crower springs, Ti retainers and crower cams.Ferrarea(sp) valves. This shouldallowthe 60-1 tospoolashig as needed. I would give him my 7bolt with 109k for the R&R of the motors. He is a mechanic with access to the shop on weekends. I wouldget his longblock and keep my externals. What would be a fair price for this motor? I've riddenin the car anditpulls hardwith the 20G. I know a long distance estimateis difficult but just looking for opinions!! Mark

I like the lower CR due to I am able to keep the knock counts under control without retarting ignition timing. The off boost is a bummer tho, between the forrester-bigger turbo-lower CR- and a taller 5th. It makes for downshifting while trying to cruise and go up hills. But the plus is 27psi on 93 octane with ignition timing 20+ degrees. On my old seven bolt hand to retard timing pretty bad (had the 60-1 on it last year).
PS- I still have the 60-1 and SFP manifold I got from AGP last year sitting in my guarge. PM me if you are interested. Ben talked me in to the T66BB he had sitting there.
Matt

Got my car running today. Could not resist taking it out for a few miles. The 60-1 ran fine without any tuning! No lag problem here. Looking foreward to tuning in a few weeks when the roads are clear! Added a 3" exhaust and the Spearco 2-221 along with the Walbro/AFPR andkeydiver chip. Mark

Man you go me thinkin about this turbo now. I am on an evo makin 325 pump and I wanna make 400+. I have a stock rebuild engine so I dont need the 600 hp but from what I read I can use my 680s to make 400+hp. I was gonna buy a to4e 57 trim for 550. Do you think I should just step it up and go 60-1. Let me know the moneys burnin a hole in my pocket.

Good Morning Cherry Hill! I started with the EVO, then 50 trim and now the 60-1. I also have 650's and will tune them to their max and then deceide if I need more. I would not buy a used turbo and the 57 trim is an oddball not used by many, must be a reason. I am in NY near Syracuse sowe have messy roads still but I did somuch work I had todrive it a few miles. Untuned it ran very well and when the right gear, lag was notan issue. Iflooredit in 5th and very slow spool. Downshift and away you go. AGP will be out until about April 1st.
Polished housing, very nice Bullseye turbine housig and NICE oil lines. I got the internal gate and had the MBC set at 17 andno creep.Looking foreward totunng!! Mark

I have a tial 35mm off the manifold so Im gonna go external. Should I get one with the 4in inlet or it the 3 fine. Do you think I can handle this turbo on a stock engine?

Proper fuel will be the key for me. I have 109k miles on my motor and am planning just 20-22 psi on pump. i have a wideband and a scanmaster so i will see any knock as it happens. And of course, TUNING! Mark

all the people think in bigger turbo and big injectors, you really need is a good engine control like a microtech, haltec , aem or something (super afc is for kits or for little mods), my colt have 420 HP with clean emmissions and good driveavility with microtech no more head pains

Hate to brake it to you but 420whp is mild these days. DSMLink can handle that no problem along with most peoples systems who are shooting for 11s or 12s. No need for a stand alone, no need to wire or rewire anything. Plug and Play at it's best.

I think I am starting with the 650cc injectors. Nate from SBR feels 22 PSI on pump will be possible with that amount of fuel. Once I max them I will consider larger. I may need more motor for moreboost and the 6 bolt I have needs a rebuild. Mark

I have the SBR 60-1 and I run 850cc injectors & water injection, dsmlink and to many other mods to list (check my profile to get the full list). I love this turbo on a fwd car! I ran a ETE50 trim before this turbo and it was no comparison. The higher spool makes my car a much better daily driver as I'm not spining the tires constantly at 3500-4000 k shifts in daily driving. I have not taken this car to the track nor to a dyno, but with this turbo it puts down some serious power at 24psi on 93 octane gas. My dsmlink dyno is showing 650-725hp depending on the pull. I realize they dyno in dsmlink isn't the most acurate thing in the world, but it is a usfull tunning tool. On a full throttle pull I spin through 1-3 and chirp 4th, yes with good tires, dry pavement and an LSD. I have yet to really spend time to fully tune it but I have been very happy that I went with SBR 60-1. As for the debate on large injectors being a good choice for a daily driver, I say yes with the proper management tools in place. I get 20-22mpg city and 28-30hwy. I know this because I calculate it every time I fill up at the pump. The only time I use a lot more is when my foot is in the throttle all the time.
Just my 2 cents!

Great set-up! 24psi onpump& water, awesome. Must stick you to the seat. I will be using the 650's butgo up when I have learned to fullytunewith the smaller.I have a keydiver set for the650's. I am very anxious to do some tuning. This winter I added:
1. the AGP 60-1
2. Spearco 2-221 FMIC
3. ColdAirIntake w/filter in old IC position
4. Walbro 255/AFPR
5. EPROM ECU w/keydiver chip
6. 3"turbo back

most people dont buy 57 trims, because all dsm people are stereo typical,go to a dsm meet and get a group together and ask eachother which turbo everyone has,my guess is atleat 95% of them have a 50trim LOL.me too turbos. The 60-1 is a great wheel, its said and done.People have made alot of power on it.Anyway why would you wanna run 25psi on pump gas?Like i told my friend,"thats like having sex with a girl with aids with no condom, thats cheating death"why so you can say you run 50psi on pump gas LOL.wow want a cookie?

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139008&highlight=auto+trim for all you 57 trim haters look there.you can bolt on a big turbo all you want, but tuning is the ticket to going fast not putting a t88 on a 2.0 liter :thumb:

Okay, this thread is about 60-1 turbos and their supporting mods, so I thought I'd share mine:

Ha ha, I LIKE that supporting mod, a 2.4l!! What has the exhaust mainfold been treated with? The AGP RS49 garrett compressor housing requires denting the stock water pipe. Are you using an NT water pipe? I can't say the turbonetics would have cleared mine as I had an RS49 before the 60-1. Mark

Exhaust manifold is a slightly ported EVO3 unit from RRE that Keco here in Indy coated with a thermal barrier coating.

NT water pipe, you are correct :thumb: as I hate rubber hoses and hoseclamps... if you couldn't tell :D

those 40lb bullseye housings ( :D ) push the turbo slightly further away from the block than PTE's so you shouldnt need to dent the water pipe. In fact, i didnt dent my water pipe with my PTE..

Not wanting to let this thread go stale, here's some more "supporting mods" I recently tack welded together (as in: "yesterday") :sneaky: (it's all a work-in-progress, no permanent FMIC mounts, and pipes aren't stitch welded yet.)

HUGE (regrettably, actually) FMIC with 3" piping:

3" cold air intake:

Mine is coming on Monday, and everything is finally going in. I'll be sure to post pics of it and the VPE core.

Well I gotmy car on the road yesterday and have begun tuning the 60-1. So far I love it! I believe I have a boost leak though or the 1g BOV has met it's match.
I have my MBC turned all the way in and have shortened the actuator arm a bit. I have a solid 18PSI on 650cc inj's without knock, Nice! I would like to max the 650's which should take me to 20-2 psi. Anyone else onthe stock BOV? If so any problem raising the boost level.
Mods are the 60-1.
ColdAir Intake.
650cc inj's.
3" exhaust with resonator and a large Magnaflow muffler.
MAFT
dsmchip by keydiver
Spearco2-221 FMIC-short route IC to TB.
Walbro 255 HO and an FPR
Wideband a/f meter
EGT gauge
Scanmaster
