Ok so long story short I am having a new engine put into my 2g as I post this. However, the shop I have doing it says I may want to think about swapping out my turbo since it looks like there may have been some oil in there.

I have been thinking about doing an upgrade to the EVO III 16g for a long time now and since the shop is saying that it would not cost me any more in labor to put a new turbo on I think now might be the time.

Here is where I need the advice...the engine is completely stock. What (if any) supporting mods would I need for the EVO  In the tuning guide it has upgrade turbo before modding the injectors, fuel pump etc. So can I just have them install a EVO alone and get to the supporting mods a little later???

Hopefully someone can help me tonight as they need an answer in the morning.

Thanks in advance if any more info is needed I will be searching to see if I can get some answers.

EDIT: I should add that if I do go with the EVO now I will be doing the supporting mods I am just looking to see if I can save some install money by having them do it now instead of paying someone to go back and do the same thing a 2nd time a year from now.

As long as you keep the boost down to about 14 psi you should be fine. Then when you upgrade the fuel system later you can start turning up the boost to take advantage of the turbo's potential. I didn't see any mention of an exhaust upgrade in your profile so boost creep shouldn't be a concern. Remember that the install will require some minor modifications to the water pipes, oil return line and a new oil supply line. The shop should know what to do. So IMO go for it. It's a very fun turbo and blows away the T25. Since you are FWD traction may become an issue but you probably won't mind because of all that extra mid to top end power you are going to have.:thumb:

Yup you can stick it in for now if you just keep the BCS plugged in. To utilise the EVo316g you would want a 255hp/AFPR/MBC/650cc injectors. Though for it to fit, you will need a 2g kit.

Thanks for the quick reply romeen I appreciate the help

Your are right I do not have an exhaust on the car as of yet. It has been all stock since I got it and right before I was going to start putting some mods in I ended up having to get the new engine. However, after this I hope to mod the hell out of it.

Scottsee, thanks for help with the supporting mods. I am sure I would have been looking for them in a few months anyway. I did see that I will need the 2g kit but at least I will not be spending as much in labor as I would a year from now if I took it back and said "ok now put the turbo on"

Again thank you both for your quick answers and helpfull posts :thumb:

Ok so it looks like I am going to be getting my EVO sooner than I thought, SWEET!!!!!!!!! :rocks: :D I am looking at a bunch of the vendors on the parts catalog and I have found a pretty good price on the turbo with the 2g install kit.

But I am wondering if the EVO will bolt right up to my stock manifolt from the T25?

Am I going to need a new mani or no becuase its a :dsm: turbo???

Also what about the intake? anyone know what size opening the intake on an EVO is?

Ok so I think I just answered my own question with the tech guides for upgrading turbos. If I read correctly since it is a :dsm: turbo the stock mani should be fine. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Still looking for hte intake though.

You can use the stock manifold. The diameter of the collector is a little smaller than the diameter of the EVO 3 turbine inlet but that really won't matter much at this point. Later on when you start upgrading and want to turn up the boost you can port out the collector opening to match the turbine inlet.

When you say intake are you referring to the compressor inlet? If so the o.d. of the EVO 3 inlet is 58mm (2.28"). I forget the inlet diameter of the T25 but if I remember correctly they are about the same. I haven't looked at a T25 in awhile so maybe someone else can back me up or if your T25 is around you can measure it.

Yes sorry about that I was referring to the compressor inlet.

Awesome it looks like everything is going to work fine. Actually romeen I was thinking about going with a tublar intake mani when I start to do my other mods.

Thanks for confirming the size of the opening greg. I will stick with the stock intake for a month or two but I am sure that I will be replacing that with a dejon tool intake ASAP.

Again thank you everone for helping me out with this quick need for an answer. I will let you guys know how it turns out after I get the car back.

I can't wait!!!! :D

You may want to look into a FMIC (if you want to run more than 16-17 psi) and some form of adequate fuel management such as DSMlink.

Good stuff  ...what other suporting mods am I going to need?

Id run the oil filled turbo until the motor is broken in since there's gonna be some metal shavings floating around that may cause turbo failure :)

I totally agree with you choosing to go ahead and upgrade the turbo.

To really see that 16g shine you will need at a minimum of:

Open Air Filter
MBC (when you get a real Boost Gauge)
Eprom ECU with a chip
650cc injectors
rewired 190 pump
ACT 2600 clutch
Full 3" exhaust
Bigger Intercooler

If the SSAC 2G Front Mount Intercooler Kit is still available that is a good option for the FMIC...I have a 16g J-pipe that was custom made for the SSAC 2G FMIC kit, with it you could have a direct bolt on FMIC kit...:D

That FMIC kit was $295 shipped on Ebay a while back...:rocks:

I really enjoyed my 16g days :thumb:
