Hey guys. Before i begin, yes i have searched. All of the threads I've found on my topic are a little vague. So if they did indeed answer my question, please clarify for me :)

I am doing a 6 bolt swap in a 95 GST. Ill be using the cam position sensor from a 97-99 and a 1g head. Can someone please just clarify which wiring method i should use? I will also be using dsmlink V2 ( which i havent installed yet)

One major thing that it sounds like you may be overlooking: where are you expecting to get your crank position signal from?

The 1Gs use a single sensor, the CAS, which provides both a cam and crank position signal to the ECU. 2Gs use two individual sensors to produce these signals. Both signals must be present for the engine to start and operate.

It sounds like your best bet would be to find a 1G CAS, get an appropriate harness for it -- depending on what style CAS you get -- and be on your way. As far as I am aware, no one makes a harness to adapt a '97-'99 cam sensor to a '95-'96 harness.
 
The harness will be easy to make, the cam 97-99 cam sensor comes with 3wires as the 95-96. You only need to identified the 3wires and adapt the 95-96 plug to the 97-99 already in your car. From there is will be easy, just buy the 1g cas harness or you can make one. 19eclipse90 give you the first part of the info you need.

This. Get a 1G CAS. You can't mount a crank sensor on a 6-bolt front case.
 
You can use the original 2g cam and crank sensor harnesses to make the adapter for the 1g cas. I got this from RRE.

I took my 1g cas apart very carefully and soldered new ring terminals on my old sensor harnesses and put them into the cas. This way you don't hack your vehicle harness and still have the original plugs. Don't take the screws out of the 1g cas sensor pick up though, pay attention to which side of the disk faces out, and what position each color wire is on the sensor. You have two screws holding the cover on, one bolt holding the sensor disk, and three holding the sensor itself.

If you wanted to you can take a 7 bolt oil pump housing and modify it to go on the 6 bolt block but you also have to drill and tap holes in the block and fill other holes in the block and use a 7 bolt oil pan. If you did that you could use the stock 95-96 crank sensor but its really not worth the trouble. I've done that before and still use the 6 bolt block with a 7 bolt oil pump but I ended up swapping to the 1g cas. Its alot easier with the 1g cas and if your sensor starts to poop out its easy to get to. My vote would be for you to pick up a 1g cas, make or buy a harness, stick it on and rock with it. Don't forget to do what l8vr14dsm95 said about the firing order and injector timing. If you have link that's easy to do as well.
 
Technically, you could use the '97-'99 cam sensor, but then you need a crank sensor, like the unit Kiggly sells for 6-bolt engines: Kiggly Racing - kigglyracing.com. My suggestion to use the 1G CAS was simply based on cost assuming you buy a used 1G CAS.

I thought you could splice in the signal wire from the crank sensor plug to the signal wire for the cam sensor and then select "Invert Cam signal" in link... Is this wrong?

No.

You need 2 signals, one from the Crank and one from the Cam, The 1g CAS provides the 2 signals, which the 2g cam, only provides one signal (Cam),...
Link inverts the signal only to get rid off the mist fire, But it still needs the Crank signal.

Hope this clears up your thoughts.

If you take apart a 1g cas you can see on the disk there are two sets of slots that the optic sensors pick up on. One for crank and one for cam but the slot size and placement is different. There are 4 outer slots and only two inner slots(one short and the other long). That's why it won't work with just the one signal spliced together to feed both. The crank to cam rotation is 2 crank to 1 cam. Another words if you used the 2g cam only sensor wired into the crank wire it would be telling the computer the crank is rotating exactly the same as the cam. 1 to 1. So your firing of the injectors and spark would skip every other time. Now for the longer slot on the 1g cas I'm not sure but if anyone knows could they clear that up?

I hate reviving threads, but I have a similar question. The setup is a 6b block/head/front cover w/ BSEK installed, 1997-1999 engine harness, AEM EMS.

I am going to run Kiggly's 12-tooth crank trigger and plate mounted to the front cover. I would prefer to run a 1997-1999 cam angle sensor since i have several here. Has anyone done this? If so, was there any modification required for this to work on AEM EMS? Or do I NEED to run an optical or hall effect 1991-1994 cam angle sensor?

I need as much cam timing accuracy as I can get, hence the usage of the 12-tooth trigger assembly instead of a simple 1G in a 2G harness adapter.

Thanks Donny, Kiggly also has alot of the variations / fixes shown on his website.

Nice paper, I have not seen that one before! Downloaded and saved! I will read through it this week and see what I can do!
