I just put a 6 bolt in my 1995 GSX, and cannot get it to start. It will crank fine, and I have fuel, spark, and compression (175psi across the board). I'm using the 2g coil pack, and ECMTuning chipped my stock ECU to be like a 2gb.

When I got my ECU back from ECMTuning originally, I had the stock engine in the car. Tom Dorris said that since they changed the ECU to fire like a 2gb, I'd have to swap my plugs until I put the 6 bolt in. I swapped the plug wires per the usual instructions, and also had to check the "use non95-96 cam sensor" box for some reason. Car ran like a raped ape.

Fast forward to today. Complete 6 bolt engine swap (2.3L stroker) is in. I reused the 2g coil pack, and am using the black top 1g CAS. I put the spark plug wires back to their stock locations on the coil pack, and un-checked the "use non95-96 cam sensor" box, since I know the 1g CAS is inverted from the original 95 CAS. I cut my wiring harness and soldered in the plug for the 1g CAS per Magnus' instructions. I get fuel (all pistons are wet), and I pulled a spark plug to see if I get spark. I do, at least on that cylinder. Compression is also great.

When I crank the engine over, it turns fine, and almost sounds like it wants to start. If I reverse the spark plug wiring, the car will still crank, but every other second it will stop cranking (starter still tries) like a cylinder is firing while the piston is coming up or something, and stopping the motor from continuing to turn over.

The weird thing is that I've been cranking over the engine for a while, and its even getting warm, but still won't start....

Any ideas?

I remembers that when I installed te cas, I set it to TDC, but it didn't line up with the groove in the cam. Turns out that's what the problem is, since I unbolted the cas, set everything back to TDC, and slid the cas into the groove in the cam. The bolt holes don't line up at all, and the plug is sticking straight up, instead of angled backwards. I had a buddy hold the cas in place while I cranked the motor over, and it came right to life! Now I'm wondering why the hell the cas doesn't line up properly.

This engine has Comp 101400 cams and Skunk2 adjustable cam gears. The cam gears are zeroed out, and all timing marks line up on the engine, of course. Interestingly, for the few seconds I let the car run, it didn't sound like it had cams at all. I'm now wondering if I need to adjust the cam gears or something...

Check your coolant temp sensor. I couldn't figure out my no start after a 6 bolt swap... checked everything and it ended up being that damn sensor.
Well apparently I’ve been having the same problem with the CAS or coolant temp sensor as i will be very mad. So I’ve got a 2G with a 6-bolt swap and having same issues with having everything and nothing at the same time but it wasn’t me who’s done the swap and it was actually done pretty bad… but i’ve no clue what i am missing right now i’ve got started once but i had the timing a bit off because they forgot to put the little metal plate on the crankshaft and i followed the marks without it so i had a bit off, when i figured that i was missing it i’ve manage to get one and now i have it timed properly but i cant get it to start at all not even messing with the CAS car also has HKS cams but im not really sure which one since for some reason they wrote over the marks(not with a sharpie!!) but i did brake the coolant temp sensor this last time but i didnt really think it wouldnt allow it to start and i but everything back kinda quick bc let’s say this is the 4th time i pull this POS out of this other POS… will keep yall posted just in case somebody going thru this too 🤣
