i just picked up a mint condition 93 awd laser. the interor looks as if the car just came off the lot. not a single aftermarket part on this car,(yet). has 108,000 on it and runs and drives like a brand new car in evey way,,,,,,,,,,,,,,...........all for the low price of $1,475.00

anyway, before i bought it i really didnt want a 7 bolt and when i read the door tag, it was built in nov. of 92 which would make it a 7 bolt car. but just out of curiosity, i reached under and feel and see the it has a out ward lump, indicating a 6 bolt
did some of these come this way or it a replacement engine, oh, and just for reference, it also has a 4 bolt. if that matters.....
someone please try to explain what ones came with 6 bolt ty

Anything after June of 1992, is ABSOLUTELY going to have a 7 bolt in it from the factory. You should have nothing to worry about when it comes to crankwalking a 1g 7 bolt. BTW, did you search at all?

Like james said, Its going to be a 7bolt unless they replaced the motor in the car with a 6 bolt. Besides Crankwalk is overrated

yes i did research it.... it says that if the oil pan has a indentation towards the passenger side, it is a 7 bolt.. but this is lumped out towards the driver side. so even though it is this way it still is a 7 bolt?

Guess you need to take the trans out and find out. I would be if everything looks stock, then its a 7 bolt.

yea, its weird. not a single thing under the hood is touched.

maybe cause its the laser, they had extra engines left and decided to just use them up???????LOL

Easy way on the oil pan is to see if the top lip of the pan is either straight across or has a slight dip in the center under the crank pulley.

Straight be the 6-bolt, dip be the 7-bolt.

Oughta take some pics of this '93 to show us how clean and stock this thing looks ...

I heard from an assembler at the DSM plant in Normal, IL, that when the engines were being shipped on the train, bums/hobos/gypsies used to pee and poo in the oil caps.
Maybe you got one of those enginesROFL

Possible reason for crankwalk LOL ROFL

by the last few posts, i can still see that the babysitters are hard at work
to the other person, it is straight across.

I say take pictures. I would be highly amazed if it does have a 6 bolt in it. Was the car ever carfaxed yet?

After you've been working on cars for about 20 years, you'll find it's possible to take the whole thing apart and put it together again just how it was, without leaving any evidence that it's been worked on. I do it all the time at work.

So how is it that it doesn't look like anything was done to it?

like you know how you have to use a tiny screwdriver to take the clips off of the injector plugs, well, when you pull them off, the screwdriver still leave a mark on the plastic MOST of the time. none on these. also there is not one aftermarket hose clamp.and i know they originals usually are no good and have to be replaced. and a bunch of other tell tale signs......no missing bolts under the hood LOL

I also have a deal like this, i bought the car for hella cheap it was made 11 of 92 like yours and i also checked by lump on the pan and it goes out indicating a six bolt, I took off my rad hose to check the number on the tranny it is an M code tranny from a 1991 model year, so i have the dookie 22 spline tranny :notgood: but thats ok its broken. Check your tranny there guy look @ the tenth digit reading top to bottom, then look at this thread ,21 22 23 spline it has a guide to id your tranny year. I have found the oil pan trick works about 93% of the time. The 1g 7 bolts didnt have a crank walk prob and the 6 bolts def did not walk unless you have 700 hp and half of what you need to support it. Plus the whole crank walk thing is overrated i believe 13% of the entire line suffered from this prob 95-98. A pretty small number considering the hundred's of thousands of 4g63's that got produced. oh and LOL LOL gypsies took a dook in my valve cover :hellyeah: in some parts of the world thats good luck:D t

aren't the main caps different from the 6 bolt and 7bolt. Wouldn't if be easier to take off the oil pan if so to look. Plus oil pans usually leak if it's never or hasn't been touch in so long.

Actually, a lot of the time you can just pull, and rock the injector plugs side to side, and they pop right off, I've reused the clamps before, (if they're reasonably new) and lined them up to the impression in the hose, and putting EVERY bolt back in is what separates the pros from the amatuers.
