I've been reading up on dsm's and eclipse's lately before I get mine. I want either a GS or RS because they are cheaper and cheaper insureance. But I know they are slower and even if I would get a GSX or GST I would still replace more of the turbo system and other parts.

I've got several buddies that just got some sweet rides and are expecting to have they're cars up to 400hp or more and I would love to compete with em... My main question is, what is the side by side difference between the 420 and 4G??? From the engine, trans, and anything else.

Also, I noticed that the 420A has higher compression then the 4G63. Someone said that it would be good to lower the compression in the 420A if I was to throw a turbo on there and compete with it. Why is this?? I thought higher compression= more hp??

Thanks much.. and plz. don't start a flamewar...

I haven't run it at the track yet, probably mid/high 13s like it is now (12 PSI and stock injectors). Now I took my information from DSMtimes.org. The fastest AWD 16g car (what you used in your examples) is running 1/2 a sec. quicker in the 1/4 mile. Now I said quickest in my post, not fastest. I will not argue that FWD cars are faster from a roll. The GS info was taken from the HRC website which says the Stage II has run a 13.7@103, not even close to GST/GSX territory. Even the fastest GS is only .2 secs. quicker than a 16g powered GSX.

haha I need to get that dead horse award pic up here. DSMNightmare - it's about time someone FINALLY showed numbers with the financial arguement. However, you can get a star stage II kit for $2899 which includes the FMIC (I believe HRC wants $400 extra for their FMIC). Right now, with stock GS exhaust I'm running a bit faster than stock GST/GSX but not by much. I bought my GS for $10k then the $2.8k for the kit, $150 for a short throw shifter and that's it. So I still fall slightly under a GST price cost at my level but granted my decision to go with GS was based on two things:

A) I was 18 years old when I bought my car. One credit card, hardly any credit and nobody who could cosign for me. When i got approved for my loan it was for a 96-98 Eclipse model. In that range the dealer had a '96 GST with 125k miles and some body damage.

B) For me, an 18 year old unmarried male with a sports car, I was looking at paying $450 a month 96 month policy) for insurance. With the GS I currently pay $318 a month for insurance (6 month policy). Both of these numbers are with $1000 deductables.

Obviously the 420a and 4g63 folks are going to eternally argue over which car is better to go with, which is cheaper to get going fast etc etc etc and I really think it depends on the deal you get and your financial situation. If you can afford to pay insurance like mine and get financed for a GST/GSX then by all means go for it.

My bad chicago I did not know you referrenced it. Sometimes you come on here and you get the F&F boys talking smack and nothing to back it up. BTW nice time on the 13.7.

Kagegod you have to admit though 400 bucks for that big ass hahn front mount is nice.

No problem. I don't have any problem with the FWD cars and I respect them as much as any other DSM.

I just sold my Eclipse RS. I had over $20000 invested in it (not just the motor). and I sold it for just enough to pay it off, only because of the 420A engine. It had about $7000 in motor & i still got my @ss beat by Civics, Cavaliers, and Integras.
I just bought a 1G AWD and I will never drive anything else. It is all stock now. I cant wait to see what they can do with mods.

this is an example of a man who has seen the light... may others be as fortunate :p

Why does everyone blow off Jay Hass?

He spent, what, $900 INCLUDING the price of the 1g AWD DSM and he ran 12.85's and a 1.67 60 footer on the stock clutch. While they may seem dead even stock you will have a much easier time trying to race on the AWD dsm (let's not even get into a debate about which is better since everyone has their own opinions)

But I will state this again: $900 for the car and a few mods and he did 12.85 in the 1/4. I doubt we'll ever see any of the FWD dsms hit that for that price. But please, feel free to prove me wrong....

Uh ok so you spen $20k on the car (not just the motor) and you still got beat by civics? Can you not drive? Hell I've invested MAYBE $3200 into my GS and I walk all over civics, accords, preludes & integras with bolt ons. What gives? For $20k you should be able to run faster than a civic.

and IMO 1G don't look as nice as 2G which is about the only reason I wouldn't get one (And don't flame me for that cause personally I want a car that looks nice and has the capability to perform well.

Well guys, I found this sweet ass car with about 10k in engine mods

Porterfield R4-S pads Electronics: GReddy Profec-B boost controller with remote switch HKS turbo timer Apex SAFC w/ "blue wire" mod (able to read 02 voltage) Engine: RRE oil catch can Ported and polished head BJs Cylinder head - Stage 3 Ferrea 1 mm oversized stainless steel valves Crower cams Ported Exhaust manifold Ported 02 housing ARP Head studs Exhaust: Buschur Racing 2.5" downpipe 2.5" hi-flow CATCO cat Thermal Research 3" cat back Gauges: VDO -30 to 25 boost gauge GReddy EGT gauge Lotek dual gauge pod Intake: Apex Filter RRE upper intake pipe (including throttle body elbow) RRE lower intake pipe GReddy Type-S blow off valve Suspension: Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks Eibach Pro springs Yokohama AVS ES100 tires Front Upper strut bar Rear Upper strut bar Transmission: ACT 2600 pressure plate and disc RRE lightened flywheel Extreme Motorsports short shifter and stiff shift kit GReddy aluminum shift knob Turbo: RRE ported and clipped (10 degrees) big 16G (550CFM) Misc. Razo Carbon Fiber pedals

All for about $6000 I can get it. But I ran into a prob, I have absolutely no credit and thinking my parents would co-sign, I just figured I'd get it, but finding out they won't co-sign, and the bank tells me I don't have credit and thats the only way. Any suggestions on what I can do?? I really want this car before someone else snatches it up...

IF you will read what I wrote, most of it was not spent on the motor. I got out of looking nice, I would rather go faster. And why is it that anytime anyone posts someting about losing a race, the first thing everyone writes is "Can you not drive?" How about thinking of a new reason. (And I wasnt flaming you, but maybe should have):thumb:

From what ive read, this is after he blew his engine on a 75 shot nos kit setup too close to the the throttle body.

Well read more. the NOS was one of the last things I put on it. It was still slow before that. And the only thing the NOS did was bend some valves & chip some pistons which was easily replaced

get one of your grandparents to sign for you.. or beat one of your parents into signing it for you. thats really the only way a banks going to give you the fundage if you dont have any credit... unless youve had a really steady job making a 100,000$ + a year. Then its a different story. ;)
