Ok im sure this will start a huge debate but its a question i find myself contemplating. I have been doing the research and thinking about getting a good turbo kit for my 420a. I plan on spending atleast 3k and trying to do everything right ( avoiding cheap ebay knock off kits) but here is the question that im gonna pose. By the time i make sure my current 420a is stout enough to hold the boost and i go through the process of buying installing and tuning this new turbo kit. Why wouldnt someone just sell there n/t and take that money and the money they were gonna dump into adding the turbo and buy a gst or gsx?. Is there a benefit to adding the turbo to my 420a? If I have researched correctly my motor does have a higher compression than a 4G63 so i guess that could be a benefit. I would like to hear opinions on both sides of this. Thanks for helping me with my decision process. Im sure this will spark alot of opinions and i appreciate them all

I dont think I want to get to the 600whp range. I would be more than happy with 300-400. There are not alot of turbo 2gs here but florida is full of them and not to far of a drive to pick one up if found one. dont get me wrong in anyway, i like my 420a. I think as far as n/a engines go its very versatile. I live in a military and casino town tho, and there are more evos and STIs running around here than you can count. I was outside of work last week (which is on a military base) smoking a cig and in about 5 mins saw 4 STIs drive by. So i guess you would say to keep up around here and have any kinda fun you almost have to be boosted. The n/t crowd down here is relatively small and since the hurricane the whole tuner scene down here has gotten scattered about. I do appreciate everybodys input tho. by the way if you anybody is in the gulfcoast area and coming to scraping the coast in june send me a pm. Id love to meet some new people and have a group to cruise with.

my friend has spent 10,000 on his car so far that started as a 420a car. he runs 17 psi on it with forged internals. he only ran a 13.5 in the 1/4 last week. it is 2 wd is is a minus and for the amount he has spent on his 2g nt he could have built a 1g that would have easily run in the 11 sec range or low 12s. 4g63 all the way!!! get a gsx if you are buying a new car. awd is the only way to go if you plan on hitting the drag strip with your car.:thumb:

Mark Bullett is running about that ET, but he is running no boost - and no nitrous.

In closing:

Ok im sure this will start a huge debate
Not on this board, it won't.

I don't understand why you'd be able to pose any question past this point.

The main reason I've seen is that some people just feel compelled to take on a challenge. Perhaps when they begin the project, they think they'll spend less money than a turbo DSM would cost them. There's also the issue of the turbos being fairly rare, and the AWD all the more so (less than 15% of production, and far-and-away the model most likely to have been abused).
As for the insurance dodge, your carrier would be able to refuse coverage if they found out about it, because you've defrauded them.

And all of this has been discussed too many times. If you want to do it, that part of the country is still free. Although it's a very expensive form of freedom.
