4g37 transmission

A 4g63t awd trans will not work for your 4g37 because you require a fwd transmission. Since you are from Canada many of the sites which are available to U.S. residents will often charge a fortune in shipping to Canada. Not worth it in my opinion. Search the local salvage yards for junked 1.8l eclipses, talons, lasers. Then you can just swap it directly over without having to worry about mix and matching parts or fitment issues.

Will an 4G63('90 AWD) transmission fit an 4G37? And if not...where can somebody find one online?

Yes, it should work. The 4G37 and the 4G63 N/T both came with the same transmission, the F5M22 (assuming a manual transmission). I have used a 4G63t transmission, F5M33, on a 4G63 N/T before so the F5M33 will bolt up the same as the F5M22. However you will need to make sure you have the flywheel, clutch, and inspection cover for the transmission you are using.

Also to use an AWD transmission on a FWD, you would need to eliminate the viscous coupler and weld the center differential OR eliminate the viscous coupler and add a spool to the center differential. Check out these quotes/threads for more info:

From the very first one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/371710-using-awd-trans-fwd-question.html#post152217841
If I were looking for a more permanent solution, I'd weld the center diff. TRE only charges $60 for the service, IIRC.

From the second one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drivetrain-tech/274677-awd-trans-fwd-application.html#post151347772
If you are going to run this car FWD you have to weld the center diff, so you won't have any of those parts anyway.

From the third one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/245270-awd-trans-fwd-1g-turbo.html#post151055044
Add a spool to the center diff and remove the vicious coupler. Would be a lot easier and cheaper to get a FWD transmission.

From the last one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/131913-awd-fwd-trans.html#post1069783
Add a spool to the center diff and remove the vicious coupler. I think that is it. You can get the spool from TRE.... You can weld the center diff but you will still need a vicious coupler eliminator.

As far as getting one... Check out a local junkyard, the classifieds on here, or contact Gary from Mitsubishi Graveyard.

Hope this helps!

Nice post Nathan, I just want to point out that Gary at Mitsubishi Graveyard is not affiliated with the guys at DSM Graveyard. From what I understand, he unfortunately gets a few angry calls from people who didn't realize there was a difference...

Correct, there is a lot of confusion with the similar names. That is why I attached the link, email, and phone number. :thumb: To the OP, Mitsubishi Graveyard is basically an all Mitsubishi junkyard that you can order parts from online, by email, or over the phone. If anyone would havewhat you need it would be him. He also has a good customer service record and is a sponsor of this site as well as many other DSM forums and events.
