i have a 94 eclipse gs the classic 1.8 sohc 4g37 the car is in decent shape i want more power without a trubo i have some ideas and questions if you have any info please post or pm
1 since the blocks on the 4g37 and 63 are the same can i put the 4g63 dohc head on to my 4g37?
2 my motor is at 185k how card is it to upgrade the internals on the motor pistons ect?
3i have also bin told that an intake would help me out alot because the air flow was restricted in these care. any suggestions on intake
4also what should i do about the tranny should i have it rebuilt or is it good as is the car was never beat on it was a commuter car
5 what other bolt ons can i do?
if anyone has any info pm me or post thanks

1. No, you can not put the DOHC head on in place of the SOHC head. The timing case and everything about it is different.
2. With making not much power, why would you want to upgrade the internals, are you going for high horse power? It really wouldn't even be worth it with that motor. Rebuilding it to freshen it up would be something that you might consider though.
3. Yes, an intake will give you a power gain, very little on a naturally aspirated car, but you will get some.
4. If you don't race or anything, and the tranny is fine now, you could have it rebuilt to freshen it up, but again there is no reason to upgrade unless your making a good bit of power.
5. Other bolt-ons you could do would be exhaust headers, exhaust, intake just to name a few.

This is just my .02, hope it helps in your decision making.

Honestly, just drop the idea.

My first car was a 92 1.8L laser - stock 92 crank horsepower.

It was a perfect daily driver, reliable and great gas mileage. Enjoy it for what it is - it's simply too hard/too much work to make one even remotely fast.
Those that HAVE done turbo builds on them only end up making 150whp-190whp - which is just bolt ons for a 4g63 car.

It simply isn't worth it.
Either sell it and get a turbo DSM or keep it and save up and get turbo DSM and keep yours for a daily.
I really wish I still had my 1.8 for a daily as much as I love my subaru it only gets about 20mpg, my 1.8 managed 30+
