So i just picked up a 93' eclipse base model with the 4g37 SOHC...i was hopping to get some info on some good modifications an good websites to get good quality performance parts for a 4g37 including possible camming, intakes, exausts, throttle bodies, injectors an possible boosting...i tried to do some reserch before but all i can find is people saying you should just leave it be or scrap for a 4g63...now im a firm beliver that you can mod any engine an make it fast and imma keep my car a 37 so bashing it on the internet aint gonna persuade me any...now i clearly dont expect a 10 second car but wouldnt mind making my 4g37 a respectable speedster an dont wanna swap for a 63...so any mods or websites for mods on the 37 would be great help

Outside of putting on two head gaskets and adding a turbo to get about 25 percent more HP out of the 4G37, go hit a yard and find a Cyclone 12v head sitting on top of a 4G37 block.

This Cyclone head doesn't use hydraulic lifters, but had adjustable lifters to use with feeler gauge (.008 cold and .010 hot). The third valve was for the MCA-JET system that Mitsu came out in the 80's and early 90's to swirl the incoming mixture for a more even burn.

I had a 90 Eclipse that had a JDM 4G37 Cyclone installed. There was a slight noticable increase in power above 3K rpms, but sure that the thing was still doing only 92 HP out of the factory, or a tad more. Car was all stock - no hacked up air can, stock ignition using BPR6ES-11 for plugs, gapped at .044" and a new belt job - both timing and balance - was done.

I buried the speedo needle close to 135 mph in that thing, the revs were hitting close to 6K and that motor still wanted to keep going. Just that I was feeling the front end wanting to lift up why I decided to bring it down. Forget about low end torque but the power is more on the top end.

Oh, put a 3 inch exhaust on that thing to make it breathe easier, but that's about it.

Have fun - Good Luck .. DSM

I wouldnt personally. Its a way to lower the comp ratio for boost. I think youre pretty limited to what you can do performance wise until you bore it out to 85mm for forged pistons and throw on a dohc head, which essentially makes it a 4g63 LOL. But wiseco can build you some custom pistons for it, throw in a set of forged rods, and happy boosting

You want to make it all motor or turbo?

As far as spending money on forged internals, dont waste your money there. 4g37 rods are almost identical to 6 bolt rods. So they will handle anything you can throw at it. And the 4g37 pistons are very durable as well. I've already tested the stockers up to 20psi of boost.

Put money into a standalone ecu and a cam. headwork if your going to stay n/a or turbo and fuel if you want to go that route.

Ok cool an i do wanna go turbo (i cant seem to find a manifold tho...my buddy is real real good with a welder an were considering making one but id rather just buy one for security) an where would be the best site to get things like a cam an a standalone?

For cams. Schneider Racing Cams - 4G37 Which ever regrind you go with i would suggest getting an edge grind as well. Its a $10 dollar add on.

For stand alone you can go either maft pro or megasquirt II or III. Id recommend the megasquirt it replaces the entire ecu and you'll have to either wire in the original engine harness or get a custom one. The maft pro is a very advanced piggy back that keeps the original ecu but takes over timing and fuel control.

For the manifold its either going to have to be a custom made one or if you can find a manifold from a 4g32t it will bolt on. It has really small runners and a 3 bolt turbo flange. So it would need porting and a flange adapter to run which ever turbo you want to use. Those manifolds are extremely rare.

but was the whole 2 headgasket thing a joke or real? Haha
Stock compression for the 4G37 is 9.2:1 which doesn't give you a whole lot of head room for higher compression due to forced induction, but lowering the compression down with the dual headgaskets, which will be around 8 to 8.2:1 gives you that headroom to play with...

A stock 4G63 non-turbo is about that same ratio with the 4G37 whereas we 4G63, 6 bolt, turbo owners have compression ratio down to 7.8:1 .. giving us tonnage of headroom to really have large forced induction pressures.

the 'dual gasket' trick has been around for ages-even back with owners of V-8's to get more HP due to more inductions with larger, "full race" cams opening up the cams a lot more than a stock can will do.

Something to think about. - that "one Eights" site is a great site dedicated to the 4G37 motor.

Ok thank you!!!...i must say ive been on many different forums (ive owned many different cars haha) and yall are hands down the best, most informed an helpful guys around!!

If you know any one that is good with a Cnc machine, you do what the guys on the neon forums have done. They made a head shim to replicate the stacking of headgaskets roughly around a millimeter or so, my buddy also had one made for his vr6 passat, that he's turboing, You still have to use to headgaskets but should lower your compression enough to run a turbo, I forgot how many psi you could run with the head shim hope that helps a little

Ok cool thank you...an not being a smart ass or anythig but was the whole 2 headgasket thing a joke or real? Haha

You really don't want to know the answer to that question..Sounds retarted right..But it happens..

I want 9.2 compression..Sounds like a good time with a 14b..

Yes, you send them out a cam and then they regrind it and send it back. Their turn around time is pretty fast too.
