I just pulled my blown fwd Nt motor out. I have a complete Awd motor and transmission. I have been told that I have to take the rear output shaft off but, once i do is there a plate that i can buy to cover that hole or do i have to weld it close. If so what materials should i use

I imagine someone makes a plate that you can bolt on. I tried looking for about an hour and thats almost the opposite of what people are doing. You could just get a piece of steel, cut to where the output shaft was, and weld it in with a wire feed.

it depends on what your over all goal is, welding will hold up better, but then that tranny cant be used for awd again without a lot of help after the weld.

So let me get this straight, you have a blown Non-Turbo engine (4G63 I assume, not a 4G37) and you have a complete running 4G63T with AWD transmission. Now, are you trying to put the engine AND transmission into the car or are you looking to just put the AWD trans into the car?. Question: what was wrong with the original FWD transmission? If that trans is good, just bolt it up to the engine and away you go.

If the FWD trans is bad and you are trying to swap in BOTH engine and AWD transmission, you'll have to pull apart the AWD trans and pull the output shaft and make a plate to cover the area where the transfer case bolted to. It would be really easy to make a block off plate provided you have the right equipment and use some mild steel 1/8" plate.

If I were looking for a more permanent solution, I'd weld the center diff. TRE only charges $60 for the service, IIRC.

...If you are going to run this car FWD you have to weld the center diff, so you won't have any of those parts anyway....

Add a spool to the center diff and remove the vicious coupler. Would be a lot easier and cheaper to get a FWD transmission.

Add a spool to the center diff and remove the vicious coupler. I think that is it. You can get the spool from TRE.
...
You can weld the center diff but you will still need a vicious coupler eliminator.

Had you read any of the links in the post I made above, first, you would know your options. Second, you would understand that these particular gentlemen I've quoted here are worth listening to. Third, you could hopefully comprehend that it isn't absolutely necessary to weld the center diff if the mentioned "spool" is available for purchasing.

EDIT: With regards to the TRE spool, I came across this thread. If you are considering doing this, you can always contact TRE to find out if they will make one for you or forget about the spool and weld the center diff: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/224489-tre-spool-discontinued.html
