Ok so first off I just dropped my built 420 in my car. Some funny things that are going on that I cannot figure out.

1. the car sounds cammed
2. it did have a low idle and wanted to stall(fixed)
3. when i try to drive it I push in the clutch and it wants to die( gets that low idle)

Now I have switched the MAP, IAC, and TPS all from my buddy's 2g and the same thing, all my sensors work in his car fine. I am stumped and cant figure it out input is much appreciated.

I think a video might help maybe stats and information on what you all did to the motor

This isn't an answer most would like, but I would go back and verify the timing. I would still start easy first though, and check for vacuum leaks and do a compression test as well.

For the timing...

Get cylnder #1 at TDC and verify the cam gears line up. The bad thing about this...you're going to need to pull the crank pulley to verify that the crank sprocket lines up as well.

If you've got a 420a overhaul manual, you can look up the timing procedures in there.

Start with the simple checks first though...it would suck to go to all the trouble with the timing and not be it.

Wait a sec, wait a sec Josh. I didn't know this was a fresh rebuild. I thought this was something that just started happening.

Cas is right, how absolutely sure are you that the timing is correct? I know there are no codes (got that from previous conversations people :thumb:), but that doesn't necessarilly mean the timing is not off.

(of course you still need to do your plug wires and fix that CLT plug regardless ;))

I will try to get a vid later tonight. The mods to the motor include: Custom ross pistons for the 420a. Eagle rods. 8.8:1 compression. bored .020 over.

Bullet I am pretty sure the timing is correct The marks were ever so slightly off and the crank timing pully was at tdc.

The crank pulley was arrow to arrow correct? (like this);

I'd like to see that ever so slightly off (since you are going to pop up a vid). They did look like this yes?;

I know you just popped in a motor and you unplugged and jostled a lot of stuff to do it. Therefore it could be a bad connection somewhere. With no codes, timing isn't all that sure a thing. Normally you'll at least get a misfire code buuuuuut, it has been known to happen :idontknow:

The cam gears were not exactly perfect they lingned up pretty close with a straight edge though, I did a ohm test on the coil pack and the connection on the coil pack where the engine harness plugs into tested at 4ohms and its supposed to be 8ohms, I will double check timing tomorrow and shoot a vid.

Alright guys i got to drive the car about 20 miles or so and i hooked back up the scanner and I have a new code. Its p1390 which means my car is a tooth or more off time. Now i gotta go back and recheck the timing (really hope this mechanical tensioner didn't slip).
