Hey guys so to set up the situation I have a 99 Eclipse RS with the 420a motor.

I was sitting at a stop light when all of a sudden it just started running on two cylinders. So i started to trouble shoot so since I had a spare coil and wires figure id try those first and nothing. So then i confirmed that they were getting no spark. I took both of my coils to the autoshop to have them checked and they both ohmed the same as a brand new one. I got new cam and crank sensors, tried them both and nothing still only firing on 2 cylinders.

Just today i have a rebuilt ecu/pcm and nothing still. Before i got the ecm I traced wires and everything was good so now I talked to a shop foreman at Hall Mitsubishi and he said to try the magnet at the end of the cam. I tried that not even thinking about it when i changed the cam sensor and nothing still.

Anyone have any other inputs?

So I found the problem, wiring even though it metered, the wire was burnt from the egr tubing and burned through the wire protector :ohdamn: and burnt up the wire. so thanks for all the inputs.:thumb:

If you lost spark on just two cylinders, I highly doubt it has anything to do with a faulty sensor. I'd say the PCM is a possibility, but you already confirmed that it's working. My only other guesses are the wiring between coil and PCM or the coil itself. Try checking for continuity between the coil pack connector and the PCM connector with a multimeter.

like I said i had the coil and wires with me when it started firing on 2 cylinders so i swaped those an there was still nothing and even got both coils verifed good by ohming. as for the wiring i have traced it from ecm to coil metered it and everything reads fine. I am really puzzled, and thanks for the response.

yeah I have and it stays running on two cylinders the whole time. It doesnt run on four then run on two it just runs on two cylinders 1 and 4.

retest the coil its actually 2 coils molded together if its running on 1 and 4 and not 2 and 3 i would swap out the coil and try it just cause its ohming right doesnt mean its not faulty just like a sensor it reads and acts differently warm and cold

thats what im saying i have about two of everything beside the ecu. i have tried two known good coils, wiresets, camsensor, cranksensor, and cam magnet. all that i have tried resulted in only 2 cylinders firing I ordered an ecu so its a new ecu in it.
