Resolved 2G thermostat housing rtv question

On the side which mounts to the block, is there only supposed to be rtv in the groove? Mine is slathered in rtv from the PO and I want to know before I reattach it.

If there is a gasket, I would clean all that crap off and go the gasket route. Idk what 2g use, but on my 1g I used Mitsubishi gaskets there

2Gs use RTV for the thermostat housing. The other note here is that the thermostat housing mounts to the head, not the block.

Yeah, you know what I meant. So, again, how much to use? Just in the groove, right?

For the 2g they sell a gasket for the housing to the head , do we still put rtv in the groove ?and also the thermostat housing itself doesn’t require anything because the thermostat has its own gasket

RTV is what the factory specs but use one or the other not both.
