Ok so I picked up a head gasket for my 2G TSI. When I looked at the gasket and block to make sure i had the right one here is what I saw. Some of the holes in blcok are no on the gasket. A picture is provided with the holes not on the gasket circled in green. Is that normal? The gasket pictured is actually from another member, but its the same as the one I got. So either those holes are ment to be blocked by the gasket, or perhaps I dont have a 7bolt turbo block like I was told it was?

let me know as I will start to assemble things tomorrow

ps: I'm not sure what year the block came off, but it was a 2G 7bolt, so the head gasket should be the same for all 2G right. I just asked for 95 gsx headgasket at the mitsu dealer.

I just checked an extra 4G63 headgasket I have laying around, and it doesn't have the questioned holes either. I can't offer you any why to this, but it seems to me like it's normal.

My first thought was that the gasket is probably used in other vehicles too, but since the blcok is the one with the extra holes it didn't make sence to me.

Anyone else care to chime in. I think I looked at other pictures of a 2G blcok and think they were layed out like mine so I dont think I have the wrong block.

I'll wait till someone else posts with reasoning behind it before I go installing things. I certainly dont want to be blocking off holes that should be getting fluids through it.

Let me know and thanks.

Does anyone have a picture of their 2G 7 bolt without the head? That way I can compare it to the one I have and rule out that its not the block.

Thanks, if so, please post it up.

I tried to attach a couple of pictures from my build, but for some reason I couldn't. I'll direct link you to them instead.

Here's a pic of my SCE Titan Copper Head Gasket on the block during my build. Notice that the same holes are missing.

Here's a picture of the bare surface before the gasket went on. Notice the same holes are present.

And here's a picture of the underside of my head. Notice the holes are not there that correspond with the ones you're questioning.

My best guess would be that Mitsubishi had added them as some sort of future provision that's not used in our motors.

Thanks for the response, that makes me feel a lot better. I guess either no one else ever questioned it, or they thought it was dumb question.

I thought for sure more people would've answered this one.

By the way, nice build up!!!

Thanks for the compliment. I've put a ton of work into mine. Glad you feel better about that gasket situation now. I never would have questioned that, but it makes sense for someone to. Good luck with your engine work.
