Yes, much better, thanks for asking. Plus, I've switched over to trying to figure out why Leon is so down on D2s when he used to love his K-Sports and they are exactly the same thing in a different color. In other words, I got smaller fish to fry. cheers

K-sports are wonderful on honda civics, and acuras! Tein and Megan seem to be suitable for our cars depending on the situation, goals, and budget.

I personally think that it really doesnt matter about the name.

Actually, for those of you keeping score at home, Leon just nailed me.

His positive posts about K-sports concerned his SO's Honda (IIRC). Given that the whole point of the above squabble is how you can't generalize about parts from a given company from one platform to another, and that I have zero experience with K-sports on Hondas, I should not have made a link between his statements about K-sports on Hondas (or whatever his SO drives) and his statements about D2s on DSMs.

Well played, dude. Well played. Sometimes the "smaller fish" is a piranha.

No. With all products sometimes you get good sometime you get bad, with suspension it all depends on what your doing. Buying a suspesion geaed towards track setups is stupid when your using it as a daily driver. Buying overpriced suspension setups period is dumb unless your going to actually use them for what they were created for.

IMO there really isnt a crap catagory for coilover setups. It all depends on what you pay for what your wanting from it.

Example: I just want my car hellaflush and slammed to the ground to look cool- Cheap ebay coilover sleeves

Example: I want a suspension setup for hard cornering, fast accelerations and quick slowdowns into moderate to high speed turns - Tein EDC, with front and rear sway bar, upgraded polyurethane bushings all around, front, rear and lower strut tower bracing, as well as fender bracing and a roll cage.

I'm not an expert or engineer but you get what you pay for, and you should buy what your gearing towards

Apparently I'd have as much luck with getting through to you as with talking to the wall infront of me. If you think Tein is a good way to spend your money, go ahead. To anyone else reading this, if your looking for coilovers, please do a little searching on this forum. It won't take long to see that Tein is in the same "junk" category as most of your other typical 2g coilover setups.

It's all relative, man.

If your baseline for coilover quality is D2s on a Honda, then Teins on a DSM totally rock!

(Or did I just make that cross-platform generalization error again?)

Mabe just put a big sticky note on handling tech. That way u can get your point across. Without having to ansewer the same questions all the time for people that dont like to search. To be honnest I think I fall in that catagory, since I am know were next to doing coilovers yet.

I just want to add my personal experience for the OP. I have d2 coil overs on my awd 2g right now and I HATE them. Unless all the roads where you live are PERFECT you will probably not like them either. My buddies old honda with cut springs rode better than these things do. They are so horrible for street use that I wish I had my prokit/agx's back. If you really want d2's that bad buy me a set of Koni yellows and I will trade you for my d2's.

Whatever your opinion is your opinion.

To the OP. IMO the only way you'll figure out if those coilovers are good for you or not is to try them out.

I've had nothing but positive experiance from Tein and stock suspension setups on our cars.

K sports on other cars.

:applause: Great advise. Go out and buy a $1000+ set of coil over and try them out. If you don't like them just buy another $1000+ set of coil overs. Repeat until you find the perfect set or when you are broke and living on the streets.

Wiat..... so Tein tested out 2 coil overs against their own product and came to the conclusion that their setup was superior?

To me that test is biased and useless.

This statement is so generalized it is ridiculous. Why do you hate the coilovers? Do they ride to soft? To stiff? Do they they perform well at the track? Do you drag race with them? Rode race? Auto cross? If you're give your opinion whether it be negative or positive about a part, you need to provide some reasons why you feel that way and what you use the part for. That will help prevent others from wasting their time and moneyon parts that won't be effective on their application.

No. If I installed a set of coilovers by tein, and found them to be defective in anyway. I would use the warranty, send em back for new ones or get my money back. If not you can always sell or trade with those who would want them, getting back a certain percentage of what you spent. Put that towards a different set.

Ownership of and upgrading or modification of a sportscar, rather our cars, in our arena we call dsmtuners. Isn't cheap. You can make it cheap. But if your a tuner that's going gto whine about the cost of a widely recognized and respected company and their products. Don't buy them.

Ebay sells coilover sleeves for 68 bucks shipped to the lower 48

LOL not quite I think it was Import tuner who tested 3 products on Teins shock dyno.

To me that test is biased and useless.

LOL but then what about the products we buy from vendors with dyno sheets claiming X horsepower more then Y product.:hmm:

Just saying is all not picking sides LOL

"Oh good." I thought to myself, "This thread is still going, and Leon with it. "
To think I was actually building up a small morsel of respect for that guy, even contemplating the possibility of that chicklet turning from red to green...

and then I woke up and the thread was, in fact, still going.

I didn't wanna say anything ... But a lot of vendors and companies say their products are better than others, but in reality, I don't feel as though they are completly honest with the customer base they are selling too.

I've noticed a lot of companies intercoolers are being made out to be the best and this and that. But in reality its just an intercooler. No depending on design, size, shape and material, it could out perform other designs, sizes, shapes and materials used. But a lot of these designs, sizes, shapes and materials are bing copied by everyone.

Same with coilovers and other suspension components.

What's the real difference between eibach lower springs, tein and megan?

Metallurgy/wire thickness, rates, progressive/non-progressive, coating, cost, etc.
What's NOT different? None of those products are directly comparable. Maybe the Teins to the prokits.. maybe. And I guess if I'm going to say that then maybe megans to sportlines, too. Still, they're hardly the same spring, but they are all in the same category. Crap.

EDIT: shit removed.

Lol but a magazine said it not Tein. In any case you may very well be right but the fact remains people always want proof of X from X company that their product is indeed good and wonder if they did any research. Yet if X shows something is better then Y its almost always immediately biased. Just saying its funny how people work.

Your argument kind of argues against itself ....

EDIT *Disclaimer Just in case someone is wondering I'm neither arguing for or against Tein and other products considered "crap" *

Lol im going to play devils advocate and provide this link regarding the topic:

Are All Popular Adjustable Coil overs the Same

It includes 3 coil-overs tested on a shock dyno including teins

Are All Popular Adjustable Coilovers The Same? - Fact Or Fiction - Import Tuner Magazine

The verdict from ^^ says Teins are not the same regarding all others. Let the debate continue. Cheers

Oh, it's definitely true that Teins aren't coming from the same factory in Taipei as most of the pick-your-favorite-color coilovers, since Teins are from Japan, instead, IIRC. But all this really proves is that more than one factory is capable of making a shock that has crappy valving.

Teins and a few other budget coilovers (such as Fortune) are better than the really crappy stuff in that they have much less hysteresis. But the valving is still terrible for anything but a bump-free race-course.
