2g cam gears compatible with a 1g?

Anyone know? Have to replace broke one, or just both. Found some used and cheap off Ebay.

I've got me a 1g turbo head, from a 6 bolt engine, I know because the exhaust manifold studs are all 12mm (right?). Anyway, according to extreme psi:

"For certain 2nd gen cars, there is a cam angle sensor on the camshaft and most cam gears need to be modified in the back to accept the plate. It will need to be brought to a machine shop to be performed."


Now I don't know exactly what that extreme psi guy above was explaining but I would have figured all varieties had the cam sensor, which is that thing attached to the end of the intake cam right behind the thermostat right? Well I just want to make sure that if I grab these gears from a 2g that they'd be compatible with my 1g head and that I wouldn't have to somehow reverse this possible modification that these gears might have being from a 2g. So are any of you guys familiar with this?

you have 2 diffrent styles of cam gears,

4 spoke are the 1g/6 bolt
and
5 spoke are the 2g/7 bolt

I have read there is a slight off set diffrence between the 4 spoke and 5 spoke, this is with how far the set out from the head, but it is not much .. about .020

Yes they will swap from one to the other.

Now on some 2g INTAKE cam gears have a rivited reluctor wheel on the inside of the gear and must be used on the 2g with cam sensor, but this one still should work on a 1g head.

The cam angle sensor is on the front of the head behind the intake cam gear on some 2g.

Thanks. And this may be besides the point but check this out. are you saying that this 93' 1g GS I got a little while ago had a 2g head in it?

I concur that the 2G gears should work.

And OP, the exhaust manifold studs on a 6-bolt are 8mm in shank diameter which is what they are identified by.

Have you tried the DSM Trader? Cheap stuff over there. 95-96's have the CAS on the t-belt side rather than the other side like 1G's and 97-99's.

Already grabbed the ones I was looking at for $26. Thanks anyway. Will keep em in mind for future reference

btw, notice two valves peeking out on the exhaust cam? Shouldn't #3 be doing the same or is that normal? I just noticed the "2.4L FRONT" on the cam gear.

Looks like the cam gears you got are from the 4g64, the 2.4L engine. I am not sure on the fitment

Looks like someone sent you a set of gears from a chrysler 2.4. Those will in no way work for your engine.

It did mention 420a, but also 4g63 2.0 (not 2.4). As misleading as it may be it does warn you to make sure its compatible (just don't expect reliable info from me). I don't have a case do I? Anybody want some 420a cam gears for say... $35?

Those are 420a gears, 2.4 on one side, and 2.0 on the other.

contact the seller tell them that the cam gears they sent you dont match the auction or the pictures... ive dealt with this kind of thing before on ebay... if they refuse in any way, file a claim with ebay immediately... the gears clearly say 2.0 in the pics , but yours say 2.4 and are smaller... i have received refunds including shipping all 3 times a seller was uncooperative ...

As Bogus said, they say 2.0 on one side and 2.4 on the other. They are made to be ran on both engines. There is no fault from the seller in this situation.

IT is because they are 420a gears and not 4g63 gears. His original gear is from a 4g63. the ad clearly states that they are from a 95 eclipse gs which would be a 420a. The picture is of the same gears that he received. He just ordered the wrong gears.

yes it would, and have excessive belt play, that is if they even bolt up to the cams....

They are just the wrong gears....


Juntjoo... contact the seller... see if he will give you a refund, he does stae in the auction "NO REFUNDS" If he does.. cool!

If you do the PP claim, and force the refund that way, and the seller is out the shipping cost both ways beacuse you did not do a little more reaserch and confirm the gears fit your car, Thats a bit of a douch move IMHO.

Take the beat, its not all that much, get with brayanwheat, who said contact him.. get the right gears, get your car fixed, and go enjoy it!

No I'm not gonna push for a refund. These parts are just a bit confusing. Apparently you CAN use these on a 4g63 but not mine because mine is ... a non turbo? Or because it's a 1g? Eeh...

That is incorrect, those won't work on any 4g63, turbo or non turbo.
