1G Cam gears not flush

Hey everyone, greetings from Australia.
I'm currently assembling the top end of my 6 bolt motor, as I was assembling the intake mani fold I noticed my cam gears aren't flush, I have a tru-time gear intake side and oem on exhaust. Everything was torqued down to spec...
Anyway the aem cam gear sits forward about 1-2 mm from the stock gear( sorry not sure what that is in impreial, maybe 1/36?) I'll upload a photo for better understanding.

Has anyone encountered this before? If so is there a solution? Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

I should also add that I have re torqued the cam tower three times now with the same result

Ever used the cams or gears before or are they new to you?

Did you install the cams yourself or was it already installed previous to you getting it?

I'll give that a go for sure, it has new Felpro cam seals on it ATM, haven't heard anything bad about Felpro but I haven't heard a lot about them either, they seem to be better quality than Cometic though. I have spare set of seals from a reputable aus evo specialist that I was saving.

The adjustable gears are brand new, my intake gear has just under 200,000 km's on it so maybe just worn down?

Yea I installed the cam gears my self, torqued to 90 nm or 65 lb/ft. I did notice when tightening bolts by hand prior to torquing that the bolt for the OEM gear did maybe 3 or 4 extra rotations before being tight. Oh and my mistake saying my adjustable is on the intake side running on exhaust side

They're sitting flush now, but I don't understand why. Tried fitting both my OEEM gears to the intake Side with same result, tiny but noticeable gap. I switched them over to put the AEM gear on the intake side and tad-da they're flush. Would that not mean that fitting one of the two OEM gears on opposite sides work? Unless AEM sell intake only cam gears which I ended up with by chance?

I dunno I have a headache just thinking about it. I was always under the impression that intake and exhaust cam gears were identical on a 4G63T.

Anyway it's not what I originally wanted but it fits right so I should be thankful haha. High five to anyone who took the time to read this.

I know right, the thickness of the gear where the bolt travels through is definitely thicker, but overall width of the gears is identical. Anyway moving on from it they're in flush now and I have a new Problem to address, AEM can hear is touching up against the timing cover going to destroy timing belt for sure.

Anyone that has AEM cam gears installed please shed some light!

If it's the upper cover then it can be removed. 90% of people run without the top cover anyways.

Just for info but is the dowel pin on the camshaft out further then the other. If it is its keeping the gear from sitting flush. Maybe it got pressed in more when you swapped gears.

Yeah, the dowel pin on the OEM gear is like a sausage down a hallway and almost protrudes out the other side above the sprocket. And yeah I had to press the AEM gear onto the camshaft, the flange I guess you could call it, on the AEM gear is a lot thicker, but they're are the same overall width
