I recently found out that I have a 4G64 Motor in my 1998 GS Spyder (Thought it was a GS-T Spyder) The car is turbocharged. Stock 4G64 2.4L has 143 HP from what I understand. Would the HP amount from the 2.4 Turbo increase close to what a stock GS-T has? Or is it still slower?

Does it have a DOHC as well? I'm just curious as to how you found out it has a 4g64. 4g63's drop right in so it could be a 4g63 swapped Spyder GS.

If the car is running near stock turbo DSM boost and parts (fuel injectors, ECU, coils, etc) then it will actually make more power than a 2.0 due to higher displacement, stroke, and compression ratio. This is of course if the engine is tuned or at least running a turbo ECU.

sounds like your still new to DSMs so do your self a favor and read up on the diffirences between cars so you know what you have. plus the paper work for the car alone would tell you what you have. if its a gs with a turbo kit only way to tell if its making less power or more than an actual gst is to dyno it.

how do you know its a 4g64?
pics might help us tell you.

With everything else the same as a 2.0L, you'll have a little more power because of higher compression and displacement. Do you know for sure it's a 2.4, or is that just what someone told you (the majority of people don't know what they're talking about)?

Can you see the stamp on the engine? Unless you're experienced with these cars/engines, you won't notice the 6mm deck height difference by looking at it.

Well the reason I know it's a 4G64 is because my oil filter bracket broke. I ordered a 4G63 bracket and it did not look the same. I ordered a 4G64 bracket and it fit perfect. Unless the 4G63 bracket would fit I'm assuming my bottom end is a 4G64. I do have DOHC head. How do I know if I'm running a turbo ECU? And I've read about the difference in the cars but I bought this car local and he told me he blew the motor and replaced it. But what I thought it was has been changing since I've slowly been working on it. I also got no paper work with the car besides what the owner before me bought the car for. (18k)

by oil filter bracket do you mean the oil filter housing? The oil filter housings are interchangable from 63 to 64 but the 63 has the water cooled oil cooler on it. Pull the ecu and look up the part number...

If you are looking at the block and your VIN and title both add up to a GST spyder but the little plate still says 4g64 well then...

More than likely the previous owner used the 4g64 block and the 4g63t head to increase displacement which in turn gives you better spool up time.

However if you end up having a spyder that they turboed more than likely they just left the stock 4g64 in it.
