I have a 1997 Talon ESi. I've been reading up on the whole 2.4 bottom end swap from the cloud cars, and it seems like a pretty good deal. I've also noticed that turboing the 420a with the 2.4L bottom end is pretty safe. If I use the bottom end from a 1999 Stratus with Srt4 pistons, rods, and bearings, what would be a good turbo to use that would give me good power, but won't blow my motor up in a week?
Thanks for any feedback

I had a 2004 srt-4 fully built making 627 fwhp, i ran the stock engine/ stock turbo into mid 12 second range with no problems. Hahn makes a 20 g turbo kit for the srt, you can make some serious power with it. with a proper tune, you can see over 400 with the srt internals.

Butcha, wouldnt the E3 still be good terbo with the enhanced internals ? i know E3 seems to be classic " top of the line" terbo to get but would the 4g63t line up would it still mount to a 4g63/4g64 hybrid? ( just wondering)

Ok so let me get this? you can use a SRT4 bottom end in a 420A engine? is this true?

Yes, the E3 would still be a great turbo to use, I was asuming he wanted to step up to an aftermarket turbo setup.

Not the srt4 bottom end, but earlier 2.4 bottom ends, (stratus) have been used for some time now.

im using the fp green on my 2.4 setup and its running way better than my evo 3 on the old setup. On pump gas i was getting a lot of knock at semi love boost in the higher rpms because the 2.4l spooled the turbo too fast and it was way out of its efficiency zone. The fp green is the perfect street turbo for this car i feel. Not much higher boost than the evo and way more power, especially in the higher rpm range

What year model stratus does the 2.4L engines come in that we can use the bottom end for our 420A's?

hey get this. you can use the srt-4 valve cover on a 420a head. so then your valve cover will match your engine. rock on ehh?

A friend of mine has a 99 2.4 that he turbocharged and I forgot what rods and pistons that he is running but he is running a t3/t4 and he has not really ran into many problems.

If you are going to be running the srt-4 pistons and rods with the 2.4 block you could push 15-18 psi easy with a good tune. I would recommend a holset hx30w or the hx35 both are great turbos and you can find them for kinda cheap if you look around. I know a guy in my shop that is running an hx35 with stock internal on his 2005 srt-4 and is pushing 18 psi all day everyday. A 50 trim would be good as well. Also get a good ems for your car ill post the link of the one im going to be running on my supercharged setup most user friendly version that is out.

What all from the stratus 2.4 is needed to do this swap? what are you using? the 420A head and a 2.4 block or just the crank, pistons, and rods?

some one with some experience on this please lay it out for noobies like me LOL

srt4 rods and pistons, cloud car block and crank, 420a head.

You will need to modify your oil pan, rewire the injectors and coil and ~270cc injectors on stock ECU, and fab your own passenger mount... I think thats about it. 2gnt.com is the best source for 2.4 info.

Here is a link to the whole procedure. This guy (Alain) has been running one for quite awhile.

I have been toying with doing this or stroking my 420a.:hmm:

They handle power nicely, my srt before the build was upwards of 375 fwhp. went 11.63@124 and made it on an episode off PASSTIME

So you say a 16g would be good. which one should I get? small 16g? big 16g? evo III 16g?

i think this links back to my origanal qustion being is the E3 the best posabul terbo to use on the motor not having a " budget" for the project

im kinda running around playing homework on all the parts i need :p so far i know i need srt-4 internals already hunted down the block i need from a local scrap location, but if i have read correctly, the stratus being most common 2.4, did the 2.4 come in short/long blocks for differnt years ?

am i reading this wrong or is this going to be franken-car? stratus + srt-4 + eclipse = nice idea +1

yes thats what were saying ;) LOL but how do you get a " nice idea plus one"

so question, would the srt4 crank not be better to hold the rpms? what makes the strates/cloud/ ( dont recall the other two cars that came with 2.4 blocks) the ideal crank to use?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your statement properly - the difference between short- and long-blocks isn't actually in the block itself, but rather groupings of parts. A short-block consists of the block and it's internals. A long-block consists of a short-block with the head and the head's internals.

The trigger wheel is cut into the opposite side. NGC cranks can only be used in NGC blocks.
