Hey all,
97 GSX with rewire kit. Car is tuned.

The car will not start and verified it is not getting any fuel. I noticed with the key to the on position the relay doesn't click nor does the Walbro 255 pump whine.

Verified the fuse near the battery was good.
Applied 12V of power directly to the pump from the engine bay and it turned on the car still won't start so here is what I did so far:

Changed the battery (Needed it anyway).
Replaced the fuel pump relay near the pump.
Verified 12v of power is getting to the relay (still doesn't click on).
Verified no recessed pins on the fuel sending unit.

I'm wondering if it is a wiring issue but not sure where to check. The previous owner had it running and driving but I also noticed a lot of electrical tape and connections made by the pump which I'm assuming was made when the rewire kit was installed.

Any insight or help is appreciated, I'm sure someone else had this exact same issue.

Double check the relay for your rewire is getting constant 12 volts at terminal 30 and 12 volts when the ignition switch is on/calling for fuel at terminal 86. Ground at terminal 85. Finally, if all that is good, you should see 12 volts at terminal 87.

I went to the car, turned the key to the on position and here is what I got:
Terminal 30- 12-13V
Terminal 86- 0V
Terminal 85- 0V
Terminal 87- 12-13V

Not just the ON position, but it also needs to be calling for fuel. If you have ECMLink you can turn on the fuel pump manually. Also 1g has a fuel pump test connector on the firewall but I'm not sure if this is a 2g thing too. Might be worth looking into if you don't have ECMLink.

Anyway, power to both 30 and 87 indicates the relay is closed or something is wired wrong. You *should* get power to the pump if those two are hot. One of those wires should be direct to the battery, the other to the pump. What confuses me is not getting power to 86. Unless you have a normally closed relay or something is wired wrong, how can it be closed if 86 is not hot? You would be running your battery dead with a NC relay.

Double check where 30 and 87 go to and that 85 is grounded.

2G does have a test connector in the engine bay too. Have done this many times myself. I also am confused as 86 is now the old fuel pump feed wire aka now the trigger wire.
30 and 87 being hot would be normal if 86 was to meaning the relay was triggered.

Could technically be the tune is set for fuel pump always on with key on. So when he turn's on key the 12v feed wire is still 12v but the trigger wire is connected to wrong pin so then that light's up 12v now too. This would explain how both are hot yet the relay is not clicking. Both sides are being fed 12v and the relay is open as it also is not being triggered to close. Double check your wiring.

Hey guys, I solved the fuel issue. When I hooked up ECM Link (had over the shoulder help) and saw there were critical things missing. The fuel system turned on but the car still isn’t getting started. I do have a way forward which requires more attention to what is selected on each individual tab in ECM Link.

Thank you again for the help : )

Would love to know what you did. My car doing exact same thing. No signal from ecu on pin 86. Jumping 30 to 87 pump runs, grounds good. Im lost

Factory 2g turbos (but not 2g NT - ie. 420A) only power fuel pump when CAS provides a signal to ECU (ie. so engine is rotating) - not when you just have key to ON but engine not running - Mitsu safety issue when in a crash. So it depends if their re-wire is wired to the original fuel pump relay or not (or running ECM Link) as to what will happen.

I went into ECM link and turned the pump on and it ran fine, will check it on first start and verify the pump does in fact work. Thanks for the reply!
