I actually ordered it from the Mitsu Part warehouse site on the 7th and just got a USPS tracking number today surprisingly.

I also ordered one from Amayama because I figured this one was going to get cancelled but I guess I'll have two!

Replaced the fuel filter. Still looked decent but you can see the darker discoloration in the old one (top) from the ethanol I'm assuming. I never saw any fuel pressure issues but preventative maintenance I guess.


New seal for the speed sensor gear came in. ( Part number in pictures) It looks almost identical to a larger diameter valve stem seal which I thought was interesting. Also when these are installed, they are installed upside down. So the spring side is pushed in towards the gear / transmission side. I pushed it in the wrong way the first time and then checked the old one and it was opposite. Managed to carefully push the new one back out and flip it.



Definitely feels like it seals against the gear shaft now. It's firm but not hard to spin. Can wait to drive this thing again. It's been pretty much 90+° everyday for the last like 2 weeks here and I HATE driving this thing when it's that hot because it turns into an oven.

Counting down the days until the track. In the coming weeks I'm helping my brother pull his 8hp70 trans out of his Jeep again since he bought an Applied Torque Solutions rebuilt kit with billet baskets and extra clutches and steels and what not. His jeep freaking rips with the current trans. He recently switched to e85 and pulled down to a 3.0 pulley making 17psi and ran a 7.38 @ 97mph in the 8th on dragy. Love that thing!

So I took the car out last Friday night for a cruise night and 3rd was feeling a little goofy. I had admittedly missed 3rd pretty bad twice now which is weird for me but it happens.

With the track coming up in a couple weeks I made the last minute decision to pull the trans a tear it apart to check 3rd and see if I can swap in another 3/4 setup to see if that helps or is healthier than the one that's in there.

Boy am I glad I did. I found the throw out bearing like this after pulling the trans out.


This throw out bearing was replaced like 1000miles ago when I rebuilt the clutch with new friction disks and floaters, brand new OEM.
There was no actual damage of any sort. It didn't explode. The tabs that hold the 2 halves together just literally bent and it fell apart.. I can only imagine that the pressure plate and clutch fork were the only things holding it together.


In hindsight I do remember the transmission area making noise when I first start the car up but figured it was just the twin disk floaters clattering around like normal. Noise significantly quieted down after pressing the clutch in once.

Does anyone know why this would happen? So I can try to prevent it again?

Fortunately I don't see anything else catastrophic INSIDE the trans but preliminary looks at the 3rd hub/ slider looks like they definitely took a beating so I'll see about cleaning up this spare deal I got and swapping those in.

Well I cleaned up and deburred my spare hub and slider and 3rd gear dog teeth the best I could and got it all slapped together with new synchros for 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse synchro. And got the trans all back in the car. Waiting on gear oil (should be in tomorrow) and I need some new cotter pins for the axle nuts. Gotta stop at hardware store on the way home today.


This was the topside synchro for 3rd, definitely chewed up good.


Every time I've taken the trans apart recently I find the synchro key springs broken right after the little bump in them.. why does this happen? This happened on both 3rd and 4th gear side of the hub.


Saturday was 108° with a heat index or 112° and yesterday was 104°.. and it was 104° in my garage both days. Definitely sweating puddles both days putting in work out there.

Man that heat would be a biggg no for me! Once it creeps over 90deg I’m not doing shit unless it’s a necessity

I applaud you for your dedication working in those temps. My neck of the woods has been mid 90's to about 100 and I nope'd right out. Even for just a crank pulley replacement.

It wasn't too bad for the first little while. I do have a small tower fan in the garage but it doesn't really do a whole lot.

After awhile I kinda forgot how hot it was and I just became one with the sweat

Well thankfully I don't have much to report.

Transmission shifts well and feels much happier since swapping out 3/4 setups. I went to a cars and coffee one morning and then another "Big D" gas station here that Cars & Bids people's were attended to make some sort of YouTube documentary about some car culture across the US or something like that.


No leaks from the transmission thankfully but I did notice that if I have the breather in the top of the trans it must make some case pressure and forces fluid out of the shift shaft on the front of the transmission. I do have a new seal for it but I didn't put it in because I've never taken it apart to find out how. Maybe next time.

For now I'll just not run a breather up there.

Heading back to the other side of the state for some 1/4 mile action on Friday, and then the 29th I'll hopefully be heading to Gillette WY for some 1/8 mile no prep / street stuff. Should be a good time!

Back from the track and good news to report.

We didn't quite hit the 9 I was shooting for but settled for a SOLID 10.2 @ 146.9

ALL of my passes besides the last 2 had issues with boost cuts due to hitting my boost cut safety @ 50psi. It was humid but elevation is about 1500ft lower, DA was ~ 1200ft.

My 2nd to last pass I lowered wastegate duty and and went 10.6.

Then the last pass of the night I lowered wastegate duty again about 2% (started off the night at 50% wgdc because that's what it requires to make 47psi at home, and ended the night at 45%wgdc) and I raised the launch rpm from 5500 to 5700 and focused on preloading the clutch. Car bogged but still managed a 1.76 60' as the car came into boost after the bog I said "eff it" and no lift shifted the whole deal and that 10.2 was the result. No break ups or boost cuts!


So close to a 9. New 8th mile PB as we @ 6.8x

I didn't record inside the car because I was pretty frustrated with the breakups and what not. Hindsight, I wish I would have.

Sorry, just scrolled back and saw the 29th , I’m gonna try and make that happen!!

So looking at the logs from the last track day I noticed that the RPM was spiking to redline when I was no lift shifting. Basically the engine was revving so fast it would hit the redline before it initiating the ignition cut for no lift shifting.

I moved the connector for the clutch to the top and switched the polarity in the ECU and tested it and it should start the ignition cut much sooner. We'll see if I even have to use it this coming weekend.

I've got my insta 360 camera, some mics, and my phone mount so I'm gonna get all the angles of I get gapped or not
