Hello everyone,

I’m having a bit of an issue with my timing tensioner arm. I notice there was a divot on the flat surface where the hydraulic tensioner pin rides on. I welded up the divot and resurface flat. I know the arm is suppose to ride on the center of that hydraulic pin but it isn’t. I checked for play on the tensioner arm, there was very very minimal play in and out. My belt rides in the center of the cam sprocket maybe slightly off not riding the edge or hanging off. I had install a gates hydraulic tensioner, could it be a possibility that the gates hydraulic tensioner mounting point be off causing the offset on the arm surface.

(The belt has been changed and the correct oil pan bolts were installed to prevent the groove)

Probably you also have the arm bushing worn out.
That tensioner arm tip's and the arm bushing wear is kinda common on a 20 years old arm. But your issue probably is as you can see the wear point is off center and you kept using it like that for many years may have caused the tensioner arm bushing worn out unequally or viceversa.
I recommend to inspect the arm bushing wear first and replace the arm bushing or the arm itself with a good used or new one if necessary, and make sure you have the proper belt tension and the correct tensioner pulley. If you have the 1g arm, you must use the 1g tensioner pulley.

thank you for the quick reply. Any ideas where I can get just the bushing?. I’ve searched high and low and haven’t had any luck, probably not available?
