I started putting the timing components on the front case yesterday and when I got my old tensioner out of the zip lock bag to get the bolts off, I see this. It was screwed into the center hole. Anyone know what it is for?

I believe that tensioner is original to the car. I will look at the cover when I get home. When I was taking everything apart I just put parts with bolts in labeled zip lock bags so I didn't notice it then. Just saw it when I opened that bag to get the bolts out to Install the new one.

In your first post, you said you are putting the timing components back on the engine making me think you intend to reuse it? If it is original to the car, then it is much too old to reuse.
