Hey guys!

I have been on the look for a more practical vehicle to replace my Mustang Cobra Convertible. I have been looking for something AWD and turbo and just yeasterday a low-mile (71k) 1995 Talon TSI popped up in my area!!! I am going to look at it on Thursday and the lowest he will go is $5400 with an extra set of wheels with blizzak winter tires on them. Is this a good deal? The car is STOCK and has a little bit of rush on the front fenders.

Pic of my cobra I'm going to sell:

Thanks!

Make sure u do a good review of the car so no sudden problems occur. Also make sure the maintenance was kept up to date, 60k means timing belt replacement. If all this is good then yeah i believe its a good deal.

I plan to do a full tune-up after I get the car, meaning timing belt as well! I'm hoping it meets my expectations when I go see it!

If its clean clean clean, and runs grrreat,, then,, 5400 is still too high, but I would bite on that. to me,, clean, low mileage, stock, and runs like stock,, are worth extra $$. Now, I paid less than that for mine at 63k miles,, but admittedly got a goood deal. And,, if I were to sell it now at 65k,, I would want at least 6k for it,, because it would cost me that much to replace it.

5400 is hard to swallow,, but if its real nice,, might not find another that nice for a long long time.

I'm thinking this is a pretty rare find to find one that is still stock and has low miles. I'm like in the fact that I will pay more for stock then modded. I'm deciding between this and a 2003 civic SI

Sounds like a decent deal, I'd definitely go look it over. But if your looking for practical, go for the Civic. It will be a slug and will never be as fast as the Talon, but will require much less maintenance and repairs than a DSM needs to stay reliable. Even in stock form.

If I got the civic I would spring the extra cash and get a JRSC-R which would be around 215whp.

Are these cars not reliable? I always had a stereotype that they were reliable dds.

How much for the drop top cobra?

$11,000

Psh keep the cobra as a dd.. that's a nice mustang! :)

Any pics of the talon?

I live in Minnesota, not a good year-round dd haha

Snatch that up quick, that thing looks clean! I'd pay 5k for it :thumb: Wish mine was turbo'd already, its killing me waiting for the funds to come in to get a tsi. I drive a N/T laser that I'm converting over at the moment. Nice pony also, not one for convertibles but very clean. The talon better be a M/T.......

They can be reliable DD's when taken care of, but are still prone to issues. That Talon looks very clean and it's possible it would be relatively trouble free. Are these cars usually as "start up and drive" as say a Civic or Mustang? Not really. But with a bit of cash neither one stands a chance.

Not trying to stray you one way or the other, just being honest. DSM's tend to tip the scales on the fun side rather than reliable and practical. :)

All I'm going to say is if you want a talon get it, if your not totally sure then don't. Just be sure you get what you really want so you don't end up trying to sell stuff because you changed your mind and possibly lose money as well.

Some people say DSM's are reliable till the 400hp rang with proper maintenance others say 500hp but I say figure that out when you get there.

Yes it is a manual!

Well thank you for being honest, I might lean towards the honda then. I am still going to check out the talon and see how I like it.

I am definitely on the fence about it. I would be looking for 250whp out of it.

Hey, i know us dsmers are supposed to hate hondas but ive owned two, they really are great vehicles. Super reliable. We have to admit that. The civic wont break as much but on the flip side, it doesnt have awd and the potential to be a 500whp daily driver for under 15k bucks! Gotta consider the pros and cons. If your lookin for a super reliable dd thats kind of fast, the civic is where its at.
you want a fn beast of a car that rattles and makes a ton of hp afteryou upgrade it: dsm all theway dude. Just be a capable mechanic and look at spending an additional 8k bucks on the dsm. You wont be driving it stock for long and little things will break. 100 here, 100 there. U catch my drift. But still in the end...
My opinion: buy the tsi.

edit: save up and buy em both! I have a expedition, a new zx10r, and my dsm. Love em all in different ways. Bout to pick up an 03 lexus witha blown engine. It never ends bro....

5400 is a bit high for these cars, but i can see why he is asking that much though (being stock). The reason why these cars are not reliable is because people throw on massive turbos, turn up the boost and think everything will work out in then end. So i would recommend buying a stock car like above, and stay stock if you want it to be reliable. If you do buy it make sure you give a proper test drive and try to find anything to bring the price down.

That thing looks clean! I bought my 98 gsx for a little more than 6k couple years ago, with 75k. Never regretted it. Keep it stock if you want it to be reliable.

Yeah, happiness is a great running dsm. Even in stock form its a fun sexy car that nothing can compare to. To find one that is not a total mess is rare these days. I say,, go for it. Perhaps try to talk them down closer to 4500 or even 4k,, but either way,, if it rus well, is clean under the hood,, dosent leak, or make bad noises,, get it!

The biggest thing we have to worry about in our area is rust. Check over the entire car for rust and use that to bring his price down.

He says in the ad that it has some rust on the car, so if it has visible rust, it probably has a lot of rust on the under body and strut towers.

He won't go any lower then 5400, his original asking price was 6400!

I will be sure to look under the car for more rust!

How much can these cars handle with the stock turbo?

The stock turbo on the 2gs is pretty small, which means it'll spool fast, but it can only handle about 255ish hp at around 17 lbs. Most daily drivers end up getting a 16g (2 steps up kinda) which have been known to push over 400 with the right setup
