Looking to buy a TSi

I've been looking into buying an AWD TSi Talon and found one (1995) at a local lot. The car has 122k miles and they're asking around 6 grand I believe. That price is definitley too high, but what kind of price would be reasonable to talk him down to? Also, what kind of problems should I look for in this car? The exterior is in perfect shape, just a little dirty from the recent weather. I'll definitley be doing a search on the VIN, but what else should I look for? What types of questions should I be asking? Thanks for any help in advance.

Condition is a big deal here. Most blue book values are a little too low for our cars. Especially the turbocharged ones. I paid 5500 for a 1996 talon tsi awd with 112,000 or so miles on it. The car wasnt perfect, but i would definitely put it as above average on the body and near perfect mechanically(havent found anything wrong with it yet and i had it inspected by my mechanic) However, it did come with a decent amount of goodies already installed. I would say spend about 4500 for that car if it is stock.

I would bring any car you are considering to a mechanic.. Crankwalk is blown out of proportion but at least have the car checked for clearances on the thrust bearing before purchasing it just as a precaution. Other than that, do the usual, If they will let you, do a compression test. Get the car jacked up or on a lift and check the underside for any leaks anywhere. Check the oil, see how it looks, ask about the maintenance. THe list goes on and on. Just take your time and pick a nicely kept reliable car(i know there is no guarantee on this sort of thing, but you know what i mean)
