okay well there is this 1995 dsm on craigslist for 2500 dollars and i need to know weather or not this is a good deal? I am currently 17 years old and i do not know one thing about cars he said that everything is great and he has some extra parts such as front strut bar, aftermarket steering wheel, fog lights, however he does say that it needs transmission mounts? is this a bad deal or goood deal. paint and interrior are great seller says this is a good reliable car is this a good first car for me or not? Please help.

I picked up my 91 tsi awd with 108k on it for 2500. I have about another grand into it since (upgrades are a bi***) and its about done as a great daily driver that can pass anything but a gas station. I guess I would pass at 2500 and offer no more than 1200. Start at a grand and stop at 1200.

yea your right and i said it has 132000 miles on it i think im just like blind sighted i just really want a dsm as my first car you know. im looking over my common sense all because i just wannt one. when i know if i waait im almost positive a tsi or a tsi awd will show up for cheeper and im sure less miles.

i offered him a grand and maybe a lil over he says 2000 is a fair price?? honestly i think ima have to pass on this one hes pissin me off hah he talks to me like im stupid he tells me how he bought that car for way more and put way more money into it and blah blah blah i honestly dont care what he bought that car for its not my fault he got freaken jipped im not going to make the same mistake as him either he does 1500 and throws in all his mods or im out and he can try to sell to somone else with no common sense. by the way the car needs tires shouldnt that be subtracted?

Coming from one kid to another take that advice I knew nothing about cars just knew I wanted a tuner, four Banger haha I was stuck on Honda's for a while but screw that. So I jumped on the first eclipse (non Turbo) but I also didn't have a whole lot of money but still if I knew now I would have saved up and got the awd Turbo models

I already have a 98 tsi awd that I grabbed up for a little over $2000 cdn. It was stock with low km.

I am now grabbing up another one. This one is a 95 esi with moderate km but it has a slew of aftermarket parts, including all new tein suspension for $600 cdn. All it needs is some power steering work done. No rust. So keep your eyes open and you'll find what you want.

wow dsms must be really cheap out there if you guys can offer some one $500 for a running car and them NOT get offended LOL I guess its just different, here in California either the junk yard or dmv will buy out your car for $1000. so I was hella offended when some jackass offered me $350 for mine! I was like c'mon even the rims alone are worth more than that smh

i 2nd this

well like everyone says if its not really the one you want its best to wait to get the right one the first time i remember my first dsm 15yrs ago i knew nothin about cars as far as working on them and the differences lik i had the choice between a96 rs basic with only 20k on it or gsx 96 trbo wit 60k on it only 2k diff in price and i let the salesman at the dealership talk me into to gettin the rs because it had less miles on it and they had it on showroom floor inside how stupid was i ended up spending 10 grand on it tryna make itreach the horsepower that the gsx starts at ......hard lesson learned

You couldn't give me a n/t Dsm.

Seriously though you need to follow everyone's advise and check the car out in person. If it really is a n/t don't even consider getting it unless that thing is mint. Because without the looks/reliability a n/t Dsm is truely worthless.

^^^
i def agree with that my opinion

So everyone's been telling you to pee on the N/T and go for the Turboed one.... heres the thing though. what do YOU want? do you want cheap and reliable? or fast but expensive?

I've owned both and they each have there own perks to them.... my GS was very cheap on maintainance and never failed me. but my GST, Id drive it for 2 months out of the year, and the rest of the year, I'd spend saving up to buy new parts for it or to get it fixed. Hes 17, so in school most likely not making much money, and he also mentioned he doesn't know how to work on cars.:hmm:

After you do the regular maintenance, TSI's aren't expensive unless you want to make them expensive.

^^True story

i wan turbo im tired of all my friends thinking that they are the shit driving their ugly ricer ass hondas. i need to show them what a real car is! ive beeen into dsms almost my whole life. My ex brother in law owned one and always took me out with his friends who also owned dsms and i was always in love with these cars! i picked up on their ways and what not, but when him and my sister divorced i never heard from him again he was like my brother and just left hah oh well but ever since then ive loved dsms. i just found this 1990 gst eclipse for 2000 dollars sounds good? im sure i can drop the price a bit but not much its fwd. I was texting the seller and he says it has 200,000 miles on the body and 100,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. and heres a list of the mods he sent me "16g turbo 3in turbo back exhaust full suspension upgrade fuel pump 2.5 in intercool piping with supr side mount 2600 act clutch with light act flywheel and qualife lsd in tranny" and he says its a good daily driver.

Still too high, you can get a pretty clean gsx for that. Too many miles and wrong wheel drive. Thats just my opinion though.

I just sold an awd 1g with 200k miles for 500 bux..Not running of course..And with new clutch and flywheel..

So 2000 is what this guy wants..He really just wants his money back on the mods..which I would suggest not giving in...

You may want to keep looking for an awd if that's what you really want..Just find what you want before you go spending your money..

is this a better buy than the esi i was looking at? ill post some pics of it to. and im looking for a reliable daily driver that can also take out most cars on the street, and this guy says this is exactly it ill offer him 1200 see what he says. by the way how do i get my mobile photos onto here?

Fixed...1200 doesn't sound to bad if the body is in good shape..

Gonna need a timing belt in 20k miles tho..

Going back on the topic of N/T's and Turbo...i bought my GS for a grand back in August with 170 on the clock for a DD...and now looking to get a turbo next year...just some quick advice...i have spend about another grand to get in working order....take your time on getting the right car...haha..i learned from my mistakes, but i STILL love my N/A!
