looking to buy a dsm

okay well there is this 1995 dsm on craigslist for 2500 dollars and i need to know weather or not this is a good deal? I am currently 17 years old and i do not know one thing about cars he said that everything is great and he has some extra parts such as front strut bar, aftermarket steering wheel, fog lights, however he does say that it needs transmission mounts? is this a bad deal or goood deal. paint and interrior are great seller says this is a good reliable car is this a good first car for me or not? Please help.

It's 20 minutes away from el paso.
And also, bumpers for a 1ga are the easiest to find as are fenders because they're all the same different badging. Whites also an easy color to match, hell you could always just do a rustoleom glossy color out of a rattle can + alittle clear coat

Will need a new front bumper and looks to be maybe tires as well. But for what it needs ## talking 500 to 1000 bucks and ## boostin.

Well ok people. Get back to the OP. Nts can be fun yes. But did you notice he said he wants to whoop up on his friends hondas? In my way of thinking that means beat them so bad there is nothing they can do. So yes a turbo is what he needs or may just be what he wants. In all reallity it is his choice. But if he goes with a nt then that doesnt mean were goin to lower our exspectations of him.

Do you think you guys can help me get threw the worrk that i have to do on this car? Also tools shouldnt be a problem my dad has plenty. How much do you think im looking to put into this car just to get it running like a daily driver.

Needs turn signals it looks like. Timing belts arent hard to do. You will need to get a chilton or hanes manual. It will walk you thru it. He says it needs turbo hoses so thats not to bad. You could just go with 2" or 2 1/2" hard piping. I would go ahead and do a small front mount while you at it. So that takes some work, but not hard. Like i said before offer him 500 and you would put about 500-1000 into it with everything and tires. But on an awd you should replace all 4 tires at once. And they have to be all the same size of tires. So you dont screw up your differential.

Yikes! I wouldnt touch either of those cars except as parts or bashers. In my experience,, the cosmetic condition of a car usually directly reflects the manner in which it was maintained. Seems obvious. Good luck if thats the car you get. I would keep looking though. In the last 2 weeks, I have seen 2x 97 talon tsi for sale near me for 2300 or less. Drivers, with bad paint.

My first post in this thread stands true. Patience will reward you with a better car.

My personal checklist for buying any used performance car: LOWEST POSSIBLE MILEAGE that you can afford.

: Fewest modifications,, because DSMs in particular tend to get HACKED ON. Trust your own work, not some other kids.

: MECHANICS ARE EASIER TO FIX THAN BODY WORK. Unless your a pro body man,, or can afford one,, its no use to try and hack up a botched body. Anything else can be fixed or replaced.

Am I still missing the point here??? Why are you even looking at those heaps?? Plenty of good awd turbos out there for affordable prices. Might have to get one trucked in. It cost me 300 bucks for transport from St george utah to GJ co for an isuzu space cab pickup on a trailer. CHEAP. Its worth shopping around and BEING PATIENT.

Seriously,, the last thing you would want to dump money into is somebody elses crapped out hacked on dsm broke down project!! They can be a real nightmare and money pit if approached from the wrong way.

BTW,,, out of state title smells like trouble. Ive been through it. vin inspection,, possible theft car....oh man I would not touch that except for parts or to race subbies in the tough truck competition at the monster truck show...
