looking to buy a dsm

okay well there is this 1995 dsm on craigslist for 2500 dollars and i need to know weather or not this is a good deal? I am currently 17 years old and i do not know one thing about cars he said that everything is great and he has some extra parts such as front strut bar, aftermarket steering wheel, fog lights, however he does say that it needs transmission mounts? is this a bad deal or goood deal. paint and interrior are great seller says this is a good reliable car is this a good first car for me or not? Please help.

Dirty as shit but that's just cosmetic and just in need of elbow grease..

The roof I hope is just dirty..

Engine bay is also dirty as hell..But It does have an intake pipe and hard piping ..Except the"j" pipe looks to be stock..Supra sidemount, ok that's not a bad upgrade from a stock intercooler..

The front lights needs to be reconditioned..The front bumper I hope is just dirty..If not is has a 2 cracks..

The antenna looks to be deleted but not shaved..

It also has been dropped..Either with springs or coilovers..

Insurance..Ha ha ha...If your under 21, good luck with full coverage...If you didn't get that joke let me explain..Mine was 150 a month for full coverage..But I also had no prior insurance..So it's was alot..


Top dollar..Well..It might actually be a nice dd..I would offer a grand since it does have 200k on body...

Your looking at another hundred for new filters, fluids, and fuel filter just to be safe..Also add car wash..

Refreshing the headlights will cost about 2.50$ I have a secret for 1g lights..

Just be patient if looking for a clean dsm. Usually, they dont pop up until your not looking! For 2500 you should be able to get an awd turbo. Look for stock, or minimal mods. I bought into a project car once,, and regretted it. I like to DRIVE a dsm, not fix it.

I'm 17, if you want to get into these cars, your going to need to learn and learn fast! Especially if it's a 4g63 model of any kind. I bought a talon(TSi awd) that needed a bs elimination for 1600 drove it 6000 and sold it for 3600 then bought a 1ga gsx (total sex). If you get into dsms go to vfaq.com plymouthlaser.com or dsmtalk and tuners. For me I pinpoint the problem usually by googling then adding Dsm, sometimes the thread is 12 years old or 12 days old. They'll nickel and dime you, at least give them a try they're Hella fun when they do run brotha.

Find a Dsm with a blown head gasket, offer 700, buy new gasket and oem timing belt+some shell rotella and a purolator, and maybe a k&n also. Last step-save up!

if i was you i would really look into shipping a car to where your at, there is nothing near you in craigslist that has any real decent dsm.

I can't comment on price since $2500 for anything running is a decent deal around here. Come to CO with $2500 and see if you get any half decent car let alone a DSM. Turbo, AWD, popular, good on gas, and you can bet people try to take advantage of that.

But I can say you would be much happier with a turbo model. The turbo models have much more room to grow than 420a engines. You seem to be on the right track though, just make sure you get what you want the first time!

Yea im actually already talking to the 1990 eagle talon guy the pics of the car are on the 2nd page of this post and ill look into that 1800 dollar one and see if i can take it for 700 idk if its a esi tsi or tsi awd but ill find out and get back to you guys

Just get a reliable car like a Honda and call it a day. If you want to show off to your friends and beat on a dsm, its not going to work. I wouldn't call them reliable unless you spend money and have a good base knowledge on how to work on these cars.

I would recomend just building a list of cars you find in your area and talking them down on price on everyone till you get one for the cheapest you can.

Im surprised no one has said this but an esi is not a dsm its a chrystler motor by the way. I suggest looking at body damaged dsms especially if you want to make a fool of some hondas. I found my gst parked in the back of the dealership with dented fenders and rusted hood. Funny story guy who owned it was a salesman and his gf found out he was cheating and beat up his car with a bat. I got it for 1800 drove it for 6the months at 25 psi until I spun bearing. Im doing 6 bolt swap now.

The guy wants a DSM not a beater. DSM's are the kings in import if and only if you take care of them. So why tell him to buy a honda on a dsm forum? Yes there exspensive. Yes they take maintenance. But what vehicle after you mod it isnt and doesnt take extra maintenance to keep it up?
