Ok so ive been searching and looking to buy a talon or eclipse. I want a second gen turbo. Not sure if i should get awd or front wheel. What are some common problems with these cars? also what do you guys think about this one? Im not sure what these cars are worth as im a honda guy. are these cars pretty reliable?
1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
i emailed him asking about pictures and if there is anything wrong with the car so hopefully he should get back with me soon. ill let you guys know. thanks

Have you tried searching topics about dsms? Do alot of research.

No, used dsm's are not reliable. Don't buy a modded one. If you buy a dsm, don't drive it till you complete all the proper maintainence. You have to keep up with these cars, otherwise forget about it.

Most of them have been abused.

And my opinion on buying this paticular dsm, keep looking.

Wow that talon seems like a good deal especially with the parts he's including w/ the sale... I'd go and check out the car in person, run a compression test if possible, check for any leaks, run it through every gear kinda hard while checking for hesitation or sputtering, check the idle, ask for reciepts etc etc...

Just so you know, i paid $4200 for my mildly modded 98gsx, but what most people look for is one that is a virgin because you have a better chance of getting one that has not been abused as much as say a modded one...

you have a lot of research to do. Get one as close to stock as possible. Go for awd, they're not that much more expensive and you'll regret it later if you don't when you want to make serious power, because that's going to happen. Get as many details about maintenance from the previous owner as you can, receipts are a big plus. If you not mechanically inclined (you will be after owning one) have it inspected by someone who is familiar with DSM's before buyng it.

First of all, Love the screen name:p
Second of all which Dsm you should buy depends on your goals for the car, Asking if these car's are reliable will just start useless thread fillers, Research em and you will know what you want. Just Fyi Pass on that car, My Awd Turbo 2g was 2500 with 105000 Completely stock.
Another Fyi. Most of my local friends are honda people, I think Dsm's are just funner Especially Talon's You rarely see these around anymore.
Good luck

As far as this particular car, I find it really interesting he switched from tein springs to dropzone but that's just me. The miles are on the high side for my tastes and I would find out why the body panels were converted..aka accident

Sorry, if you don't get any comments after the "Honda" one.....We don't take kindly to them ;)

Seriously though, whatever you end up doing. Go "AWD Turbo". You'll regret it if you don't.......Just make sure you have a decent job, and some $ for your goals.

I would pass on that one as well. I would keep looking for one with lower mileage that is closer to stock.

I got my 95 TSi AWD for $4800 from the original owner who was an older man who never modified it or from what I could tell, abused it.

If you have enough cash to afford a 2g turbo awd, definitely go with it, you won't regret getting the awd, but ultimately it comes down to your budget. If it's under 4k or something you should really consider 1g's as well.

The reason my screen name is honda_Sol is because my first car was a del sol and it just stuck. but now i have a 95 prelude. here is a picture of it.

um yeah so my goals with the car would just be a dd that has a little bit of power behind it. not looking to build one all out. just add some things over time. Also im still waiting on pictures of the car from the guy. thanks

Sounds like a decent price to me. Did everyone notice all the extras that come with it?

"I have a nearly brand new 1st gen 6 bolt block with crank, Slowboy racing big 16g turbo (brand new), eagle h-beam rods w/bearings, as well as many other parts."

I would at least check it out.

Thats a good price for the car and all those parts but there are a few more miles on it than i would like. But it still all depends on how well the car still runs and you're not going to know that until you check it out in person. In the ad he also doesn't mention anything about general maintenance, and if he doesn't know when the last time the timing belt was changed i would do that immediately! Like AS SOON AS you get it home. You will be sorry if you don't.

the 95 and 96 were the most prone to crankwalk. if the clutch engages really low of feels strange at all, drop it like its hot. if there is visible rust or bubbling on the strut towers, this is just the tip of the iceberg. the strut towers rust out from inside the wheel wells. also, if the car is rusty and the rear wheel bearings are making noise, chances are the bearings have welded the axle splines to the spindles, making it necessary to replace damn near the entire rear suspension (awd only). The transfer cases are also prone to leakage at the output seal and can run dry and lock up (again awd only). if you havent figured it out by now, these cars are very high maintenance and if proper repairs are not made (eg. timing belt) disaster will strike.
